Simulator racing (sim racing for short) has grown immensely in popularity, especially when the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 meant trackdays and races were temporarily shuttered.

Among the biggest sim racing organizers is Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), which has extended the success of its long-running Toyota GAZOO Racing Vios Cup one-make series into the digital world. 

TMP announced in a June 2023 press statement that it will broadcast Round 1 of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Gran Turismo (TGR GT) Cup Philippines 2023 on the official Toyota GAZOO Racing Philippines Facebook page on June 28, 2023.

The series gathers e-motorsports players from all over the country who will battle throughout three qualifying rounds. It uses the popular Gran Turismo simulation racing game, with the cars and equipment provided by TMP.

The TGR GT Cup Philippines national finals will be held in a public venue in Metro Manila. Winners of the local series will represent the Philippines at the TGR GT Cup Asia Regional Finals, taking on the best e-racers from neighboring Asian countries.

In addition, winners of the TGR GT Cup Philippines 2023 will race in the next season of the TGR Vios Cup using the Toyota Vios One-Make Race Car. In 2022, the winning e-racers took part in the Vios Autocross Challenge, with veteran sim racer Russel Reyes emerging victorious.

TMP said registration for the 2023 season is free and open to all Filipinos with a Sony PlayStation 4 or 5 with an active PSN Account and PS PLUS Subscription. Interested participants may register here.
