How much do we think the 2023 Toyota Wigo would cost in the Philippines

The 2023 Toyota Wigo has already made its rounds on the Internet, debuting in several forms, such as the Daihatsu Ayla, Toyota Agya and the Perodua Axia.

While we have seen its multiple versions and got a quick peek at their specifications, one thing still needs to be discovered: the price.

We don't have the exact specifications yet, but we will base our estimates on what we think could increase the hatchback's price in terms of its features.

window.googletag = window.googletag || {cmd: []}; googletag.cmd = googletag.cmd || []; googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot('/22557728108/ph_article_fourthp_under_pc', [ 728, 90 ], 'div-gpt-ad-1686500526235-0').addService(googletag.pubads()); googletag.pubads().enableSingleRequest(); googletag.pubads().collapseEmptyDivs(); googletag.enableServices(); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1686500526235-0'); });

These figures are estimates for the 2023 Toyota Wigo, as its official prices will likely be higher once it enters the Philippines.

New platform, new price

The 2023 Toyota Wigo rides on a new DNGA platform, meaning it will receive a price bump because of its new chassis.

Now, we don’t know much it will exactly add to the total suggested retail price of the vehicle once it lands in the Philippines, but we are guessing it will add about ₱25,000 to its current price.

As it takes on a shared platform, we don’t think it will add too much to the final cost of the vehicle.

However, that price bump will include the new suspension, brakes, wheels and tires. To recall, the current Toyota Wigo is priced between ₱578,000 to ₱705,000, as of press time.

With the new chassis, we could see it hit the ₱600,000 to ₱730,000 range pretty quickly.

New technology, more cost

perodua axia interior

The 2023 Perodua Axia can easily be the template for the interiors of the 2023 Toyota Wigo.

As we assume the 2023 Toyota Wigo will come with more technology, it will come at a price.

Depending if the Japanese automaker will add Toyota Safety Sense to the hatchback, we could see another possible ₱20,000 increase or higher, without factoring in the inclusion of a new head unit.

What do other brands do?

A great example of how the addition of active safety features can affect a vehicle's price is Honda Cars Philippines and the Honda BR-V.

The V and VX are essentially the same, with the exception of the latter getting a ₱95,000 increase because of Honda SENSING.

If Toyota Philippines were to do the same with new localized the top-of-the-line Wigo, we could see a massive increase in price for the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense suite.

We can also look to the BR-V to see how a change in the transmission and the addition of a touchscreen head unit can affect its price with the S MT and S CVT models.

While their specifications are similar, the CVT model costs ₱60,000 more than the manual. Factor in the transmission difference of about ₱50,000 and you're looking at a ₱10,000 difference for the addition of the head unit and other minor features.

Going back to the new Wigo, the pricing can still go lower if Toyota chooses not to include its active-safety suite on the Philippine-market, next-generation Wigo.

As for its more extensive infotainment system, we guess it could add another ₱5,000 to ₱10,000 to the, depending on whether the automaker will give it features such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

More power, but at a cost

toyota agya engine

If Toyota Motor Philippines brings the 2023 Toyota Wigo with the larger 1.2-liter inline-3 gasoline engine, we can assume it will enter a new tax bracket.

It means that we can see the hatchback become more expensive thanks to this engine. Based on our estimates, it could give the vehicle about a ₱15,000 to ₱30,000 increase to its current suggested retail price.

However, to keep costs low and the Wigo still competitive within its segment, Toyota could just carry over its 1.0-liter inline-3 gasoline engine, but slap on the new D-CVT to it.

The new transmission will aid in fuel economy while maximizing what little power the 1.0-liter motor has.

Toyota’s goal with the 2023 Toyota Wigo could be to keep its pricing in the Philippines between the Suzuki Celerio and the Honda Brio.

It will hit the sweet spot for those who are on a budget, but want a little more power and can’t fully commit to the top-of-the-line Brio.

What will its price range be like?

Again, we are working only on assumptions here

There is no official pricing yet for the Philippine version of the 2023 Toyota Wigo, so take this information with a grain of salt. Given the new chassis, new engine, and new features, the new Toyota hatchback might slightly increase its price range.

Considering inflation, we could soon see Toyota’s most affordable vehicle enter the ₱600,000 to ₱650,000 range for its entry-level variant.

For its top-of-the-line model, we could soon see it enter the ₱800,000 to ₱850,000 price bracket, slightly overlapping the pricing of the Toyota Raize.

Overlapping into Raize’s price point could be a good move for Toyota as it forces the customer to choose between the entry-level variants of the Raize or the top-spec Toyota Wigo.

Do you want the 2023 Toyota Wigo to retain the same price bracket as the current model or are you OK with a price bump for what you get?
