Honda Cars unveils its Prelude Concept coupe, hinting at a revival of the nameplate

Honda Cars is pulling out all the stops at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS), unveiling the all-new Honda Prelude concept on Oct. 25, 2023.

While the Japanese automaker has been quiet about its specifications, it has confirmed that the Prelude concept is electric. Honda Cars also did not release any information about the new vehicle's powertrain, as it appears the company wants to keep it a secret for as long as possible.

Despite this, it is very close to a production-ready version. Its sleek LED headlights and daytime running lights carry a similar look to the current generation Honda Civic.

The Prelude concept also appears to have an LED strip that acts as an accent for the nose of the two-seater coupe.

Looking like the real deal

A closer look at the Prelude concept also shows that it is running Brembo brakes that are visible behind its factory-styled 20-inch wheels.

It indicates that Honda wants this model to be “sporty” despite being an electric vehicle.

Another thing we noticed is that the Prelude has a set of normal side mirrors, which differs from concepts that typically use cameras instead. Honda is taking this concept car seriously, which could be what the production-ready version will look like when it officially launches.

If you are wondering if Honda will bring the concept car into production, its CEO, Toshihiro Mibe, shared some interesting remarks about it.

He said the concept “will become the prelude for our future model which will inherit the 'joy of driving' into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda's unalterable sports mindset."

Note here that he uses a clever play on words with the lowercase "prelude" to allude that Honda can create the concept car into a mass-production version in the future.

It's a waiting game to see what Honda Cars will do next, as a possibility of a Prelude revival is on the horizon.
