Toyota wants to bring the FJ Cruiser back, as the Japanese automaker has filed for a trademark of its nameplate. The information about it was published on the Japanese website “Chizai Watch,” where a Land Cruiser Forum user discovered it filed under the “Land Cruiser FJ” trademark. 

The Japanese brand has already submitted the paperwork needed for an application on October 27 in Class 12, reserved for “ vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water,” according to an official document published on the Japanese government's website.

Possibly teased but not confirmed

Take this information with a grain of salt, as Toyota may not use the name for a production model. However, Toyota may have already teased the FJ during the debut of the next-generation Land Cruiser. Two other vehicles can be seen in the presentation for both SUVs in the background, with the one on the right turning out to be the electric Land Cruiser Concept, while the other has yet to be determined.

The yet-to-be-determined vehicle does have its spare tire located on the tailgate, which could indicate that it could be the Land Cruiser FJ. Toyota has also released the Compact Cruiser Concept, which looks similar to what a modernized FJ Cruiser could look like. 

These signs point to the Japanese manufacturer setting up a comeback for the FJ Cruiser as it proved to be a popular model. Toyota may integrate the nameplate into the Land Cruiser family, creating vehicle variants adaptable to all markets. 

For now, it's a waiting game to see what Toyota will do next, as the possibilities are endless regarding the revival of the FJ nameplate. It may come back as a hybrid or full-on electric vehicle and share the same parts as the Land Cruiser 250 and 300 models.
