Tested for over 500 km: How fuel-efficient is the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid?

Toyota Yaris Cross

AutoFun Indonesia tests the Toyota Yaris Cross on a 500-km road trip to find its fuel economy numbers.

The Toyota Yaris Cross was recently launched in the Philippines, bridging the gap between the Toyota Raize and the Toyota Corolla Cross.

It is also the brand’s most affordable hybrid vehicle, priced below its Corolla Cross counterpart.

While we were able to get an initial impression of the Yaris Cross Hybrid during its launch with a quick test drive around Bonifacio Global City, our colleagues from AutoFun Indonesia got more seat time (three days) with the crossover as they were able to take it on a 500-km drive.

That said, here is the average fuel economy they got from their journey with the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid.

3 days, 3 different environments

The media drive for the Japanese automaker’s newest crossover covered a three-day journey.

On the first day, the group arrived at the Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java, which is around 780 km east of the capital Jakarta. They immediately departed using the Yaris Cross Hybrid for the Mount Bromo tourist area, some 136 km away.

The group then proceeded on the toll roads from Surabaya, exiting at the Purwodadi toll exit. For this stint of the journey, the hybrid crossover was able to get 14.7 km/l.

However, when the route took the test drive group through the hills of the Mount Bromo area, the fuel efficiency figures of the Yaris Cross dropped to 12.6 km/l, which is still pretty good considering the conditions.

After completing activities in the expanse of Bromo's Whispering Sands, the group departed for Malang, East Java via the inner city roads and toll roads. For their dinner stop, the Toyota crossover registered 17.2 km/l after traveling about 152 km.

On the second day of the trip, the group headed to the Museum Angkut (Transportation Museum) in the Malang Area, which covered a distance of 9.5 km.

For the short trip, the Yaris Cross was able to get around 15.1 km/l, which is still an excellent number considering the traffic they encountered, along with the long wait times at traffic lights.

After checking out the over 300 modes of transportation at Angkut, the group then headed to Sidorajo, a journey of some 119 km at speeds of 145 to 153 km/h. Despite the higher speeds, the Toyota Yaris Cross was still fuel efficient, registering 17km/l.

East Java

For the last leg and day of the journey, the group headed from their accommodations in the Tunjungan area, Surabaya to the Safari Park in the Pasuruan area, East Java.

The Toyota Yaris Cross recorded 16.9 km/l during the trip.

Overall, the Toyota Yaris Cross delivers on its role as a subcompact hybrid crossover. You are almost guaranteed double digits for fuel efficiency on the highway or in the city.

Stay tuned, as we will get a test unit soon to give you the crossover’s fuel economy figures on Philippine roads.
