    Bringing something different to the competitive MPV/AUV segment is the Okavango from Geely Philippines. This five or seven seater marks Geely’s third model and comes as bigger and more upscale compared to the rest of the line-up. But what really makes it different from the competition is its advanced mild hybrid system from Geely. The Okavango is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine and assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system. Together, the system generates 190hp and 300 Nm of torque. The hybrid motor is then mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission which sends power to only the front wheels.


    The Geely Okavango was initially launched in China in June 2020 where it is known as the Haoyue. Here in the Philippines, the Okavango was launched in November of 2020 with two variants to choose from, the Comfort and Urban. Both variants come equipped with Geely’s hybrid system that’s composed of a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that is mated to a 48-volt hybrid system. Power is sent to all wheels via a 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission. A third variant would soon be added which is the Urban Plus which includes, ABD Matrix LED headlights along with a sunroof and higher quality materials. It has a starting price of Php ₱1,503,000 for the Comfort variant while the top-spec Urban Plus is priced at ₱1,765,000.

    The Okavango adopts what Geely calls, “Expansive Aesthetic” concept which accounts for the numerous exterior details while maintaining its SUV-like silhouette. Another Geely design statement found on the Okavango’s is its signature expanding cosmos grille with sleek LED headlamps on either side with LED daytime running lights. It also has LED rear combination lamps, as well as auto headlamp controls for the Urban variant.

    Other exterior features include a panoramic sunroof, power side mirrors with heating for the Comfort variant, auto fold with heating for the Urban model, and roof rails for the top spec variant.

    Geely has put much effort into maximizing the Okavango’s interior space with a 69% space utilization rate. It has a total of 19-seat configurations and can come either as a five or seven seater that also folds flat. When fully folded, the Okavango’s interior space measures in at 2.2 meters. Cooling the occupants is courtesy of a three-zone air conditioning system with independent AC controls in the driver, front passenger, and rear passenger seats.

    Following Geely’s “Healthy Car” Program, the Okavango comes with a host of standard safety features such as, ABS with EBD, driver and front passenger airbags, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, hill descent control. hill start assists control, immobilizer, and tire pressure monitoring system. For the Urban variant, it comes with side airbags and curtain airbags, as well as a 360-degree camera. In addition, it also comes standard with 3-point seatbelts for all occupants as well as ISOFIX tethers for the second row.


    The Geely Okavango comes with a 10.25-inch infotainment system with QDLink, USB, and Bluetooth connectivity and front and rear speakers. For the Urban variant, it comes with a 360-degree camera, while its Comfort variant only comes with a reverse camera.
