Can the Honda City Impress You More than the Market Favorite Toyota Vios? 01

Would you go for a radically new car or stick with a tried and tested one? The Philippine market has been enamored with the proven Toyota Vios, and we have seen that for the last two decades. And it is not just because of its affordability, but also because of the brand's solid reputation. But how about you? What's your take? Would you go for the tried and tested like the Toyota Vios? Or would you venture with the radically new Honda City? Which is more promising on the road, and which will stand out in the category in 2022?

When it comes to driving, we all have different preferences. Some drivers might find certain features interesting. Others may not.  However, even though we have differences, we do still have similarities when it comes to specific car traits. In this case, the Toyota Vios has been known to satisfy a majority of car buyers. On the other hand, owners of the Honda City, which does not sell as much as the Vios, swear by the good experiences they have had with this sedan.

There are numerous features to talk about when it comes to cars, but let's focus on one of the most important – the way it feels on the road. What is it like to drive the ever-popular Toyota Vios? And does the Honda City have what it takes to impress you behind the wheel more than the Vios?

First of all, when it comes to driving comfort, the Toyota Vios provides that all too familiar Toyota feel.  On the other hand, as expected, the Honda City is a bar above the Toyota Vios when it comes to seat comfort and overall ergonomics. However, I have to say that the Toyota Vios is a lot better when it comes to cabin insulation. The NVH is far much better in the Vios than in the City. This seems a little bit odd, considering that the Toyota comes in cheaper in price than the Honda. In terms of steering, the Toyota Vios has tight yet smooth steering that gives the driver stable handling whereas, in the City, the steering feels lighter and effortless to control.

It's easy to say at times that the more expensive product is the better one, especially when it comes to performance. Most of the time this is true, but not conclusively as in the case of the Toyota Vios. It may be on the affordable side, but this best-selling sedan is still capable. The Vios Cup is a testament to that.

However, the all-new Honda City is a competitive rival in the category. Its engine performance output is much more exciting to explore and experience. The throttle response of the Honda City is a bit quicker than the Toyota Vios. This makes it easier for the driver to maneuver and handle in the real world. It is much sharper and more fun to drive overall.

The Toyota Vios and the Honda City may be different in most driving aspects, but they both stand out in their own strengths. If we are going to base our assessment on price tags alone, the Toyota Vios is significantly cheaper and more affordable than the Honda City. And as such, should be the better car. But, if we are to weigh which of the two gives a better driving experience, we may end up with a split decision.

For me, the Honda City scores better than the Toyota Vios. In terms of value for money, I would have to go for the Honda City. While it has impressed me with its driving abilities, that doesn't mean that it will necessarily be the same for you too. We have our own taste when it comes to driving.  After reading this insight, you should try and discover your own.
