29.66 kms per liter: The Honda HR-V Makes it so Easy to Achieve 01

What do the Honda Civic RS Turbo CVT, the Honda HR-V V Turbo CVT, and the Honda HR-V S CVT all have in common? Aside from their illustrious badge, which has signified technological innovation through the years, all are shining examples of Honda’s mastery at mixing efficiency with performance.

At around Php 70 per liter, fuel prices have become volatile enough to make the average car buyer think hard about owning a car. Is the cost of purchasing and owning a brand-new vehicle still a worthy exercise? Fortunately, Honda’s newest models are designed to let you save more of your fuel money by maximizing their overall efficiency and balancing it with comfort, style, and performance.

In yet another fuel economy run recently supervised by the Automobile Association Philippines, the 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC Turbo-equipped Honda Civic RS achieved a fuel consumption figure of 21.43 kilometers per liter. The HR-V V Turbo, meanwhile, recorded a 24.34 kilometer per liter mileage. While the HR-V S, a non-turbocharged i-VTEC engine-equipped variant of the popular crossover, provided the highest fuel efficiency rating of 29.66 kilometers per liter

These figures were all achieved in a 129-kilometer highway fuel economy run. All vehicles kept their speeds between 60-80 km/h and engine revs at 1,500-2,000 rpm. All air conditioning units were set to  24°C and at number one fan speed.

“With fluctuating fuel prices, we understand how important fuel efficiency is to vehicle owners,” says Masahiko Nakamura, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. president. He adds, “Through this eco run, we are not only demonstrating that Honda vehicles are fuel efficient in local conditions, but we also want to encourage customers that they too can have excellent fuel mileage. It does help to have safe driving habits and to observe the periodic maintenance service, especially combined with advanced technology features like the Honda SENSING.”

You could argue that highway cruising conditions don’t usually conform to these set parameters. They hardly at all. But at least it is nice to know what your car can be capable of given ideal driving conditions or if you’re in a bind.

But the key to consistently low fuel consumption is practicing good driving habits and having your car maintained religiously to operate at its best. Combine those with an engine designed to maximize efficiency while delivering smooth, reliable power, like the proven 1.5-liter i-VTEC. You’ve got a winning combination.

Do you think you can match the fuel consumption figures of the Honda Civic and the Honda HR-V with your driving style?
