Mitsubishi Philippines recently celebrated its 60th anniversary in the country with a bang with a special event celebrating the history of the automotive brand in the country at the Worldtrade Center in Pasay.

The Japanese automaker displayed historic units such as the Mitsubishi Lancer “box type,” the Mitsubishi L200, and the Mitsubishi Pajero.

In addition, the brand also had its latest lineup of vehicles on display alongside the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which is expected to launch soon.

So, what's cool about the 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV? We look at its history to show you some interesting facts about the nameplate.

One of Europe’s best-selling PHEVs

While this doesn’t count the current model, in Europe, the Outlander PHEV has been bought by over 200,000 owners. Since its launch, Mitsubishi said it has been its best-selling plug-in hybrid. The Japanese automaker cites that the electrified crossover is loved by thousands thanks to its practicality, modern styling, and hybrid technology.

It's also an ideal car for the region as it's excellent for a school run, your daily commute, or even for your random adventures. The crossover is spacious and comfortable, offering plenty of leg and headroom.

4x4 capabilities

While we don’t know the official specifications of the next-generation Philippine Mitsubishi Outlander just yet, in other markets, the PHEV is available with a 4x4 model. According to the Japanese brand, it has one of the most intelligent and advanced four-wheel-drive systems it has ever created in the form of the S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control) system.

The system manages front-rear driving force distribution, left-right wheel torque distribution, and four-wheel brake distribution as a whole. The system takes out the discomfort of operating in all-wheel drive and ensures a smoother four-wheel experience.

55 to 60 km of electric-only range

As the Mitsubishi Outlander is a plug-in hybrid, it can travel with just the electric motor and battery pack. Depending on the variant that Mitsubishi Philippines will bring into the country, it can travel between 55 to 60 kilometers on its battery pack alone.

If you want to extend that range further, you can charge the Outlander at an EV station, which will take a few hours. Mitsubishi states that with a dedicated home charger, not the one that comes with the car, it will take around four hours to charge to about 90 or 100%, depending on the remaining charge. However, expect the charging times to double if you do use a slow AC charger.

Now for the wait

Mitsubishi Philippines has yet to reveal the full specifications or the launch date of the upcoming 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, since there are units in the country, one that we saw at the anniversary expo and the other at the brand’s local plant in Santa Rosa, we could soon see the PHEV launch. Our best guess is that the launch will be sometime in Q4 of 2023 or Q1 of 2024 to coincide with the launch of the all-new Triton.

Hopefully, we will also get a price markdown as the current model is just a hair under three million pesos at the moment.
