Five features we want to see in the all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton for the Philippines

The all-new Mitsubishi Strada, or Triton in other markets, is set to make its global debut on July 26, 2023. The famous pickup truck brings a new, more futuristic design and a new reported set of features that will make the vehicle a game changer in its segment.

While it may take time for the new pickup truck to make its way to the Philippine market, we made a quick wish list of sorts for the all-new Mitsubishi Triton once it launches locally. And yes, we'll just call it Triton so we're all aligned with the region.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

This feature may already be available in other markets, but the current Mitsubishi Strada does not come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the Philippines.

Mitsubishi Philippines has given the pickup truck a 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation but that's about it.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1686500526235-0'); });

It's a rather odd omission from the vehicle as its SUV sibling, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, already has it as standard. The Strada's rivals, such as the Isuzu D-MAX, Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, and Nissan Navara, already have the feature, which puts it at a disadvantage in terms of its feature set.

Adding the feature to the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton would match its futuristic styling and put it on par with the rest of its rivals in terms of technology.

Advanced Driver-Assist Systems (ADAS)

The current local version of the Mitsubishi Strada does not come with an advanced driver-assist system (ADAS). It means that the pickup truck does not benefit from features such as adaptive cruise control or lane keep assist which some of its rivals already have.

Adding the feature could make the new Mitsubishi Triton more appealing to more buyers while retaining its futuristic yet rugged appeal.

Electrified power

Battery electric vehicles are becoming popular in the Philippine market, with more and more automakers bringing them in. They offer significant fuel savings as these vehicles can run a certain distance on electric power alone.

The upcoming Mitsubishi Triton is slated to be one of the first few pickup trucks to receive battery electrification technology giving it an edge over its competition. According to Koichi Namiki, executive officer of product strategy, during an interview with the Australian press, the BEV pickup will be based on the Triton.

A more powerful diesel engine

For those who don’t want a BEV pickup truck,  the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton may come with a more powerful diesel engine. The new Triton is said to retain its 2.4-liter turbo diesel, but it remains to be seen if it will still push out 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque.

Currently, it is in the middle of the pack compared to its other rivals, such as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, which both produce 200PS and 500 Nm of torque. Having a more powerful turbodiesel motor could be a game-changer for the nameplate.

An off-road or Ralliart variant

Here’s to wishful thinking, the Toyota Hilux has its GR Sport model, and the Ford Ranger has the Raptor, so why not a proper Ralliart Mitsubishi Triton?

While we can’t confirm that Mitsubishi has an off-road performance variant in mind for the new Triton, we hope the automaker will bring it in for the 2024 pickup truck version.

It would be an ideal scenario to bring back the Ralliart brand into the performance market and an excellent way for the automaker to strut its stuff on the rally motorsport stage.

What else would you want to see on the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton?
