The all-new 2022 Toyota Avanza could make its debut in Indonesia as early as November, eventually replacing the second-generation model that has been on sale for 10 years.
According to Indonesian portal OtoDriver, the 2022 Toyota Avanza would be launched at the upcoming Indonesia Motor Show 2021 (Gaikindo), which begins on November 11, 2021.
In addition to the modern new design and additional safety features, the new Avanza will critically abandon the current generation of rear wheel drive layout and adopt a more fuel-efficient front wheel drive layout.
The new CVT automatic transmission will also replace the four-speed automatic transmission, which has been the mainstream of Avanza models since its launch in 2004. The five-speed manual transmission will continue to be available.
As for powertrains, the current equippment of 97 PS / 120 Nm1.3-litre 1NR-VE and 104 PS / 136 Nm1.5-litre 2NR-VE will be carried over.
Toyota Avanza, Veloz (higher specification decorative line) and Daihatsu xenia models may provide up to 17 variants. It is reported that the highest variant of each model will be specially equipped with CVT automatic transmission and advanced driving assistance system (ADAS).
Thus far, six-airbags and AEB have been confirmed, though, additional features that makeup the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) or Daihatsu Advanced Safety Assist (A.S.A.) suites are yet to be known for the Avanza and Xenia respectively.
Of course, in addition to its popularity in Indonesia and its good reputation in Malaysia, Avanza in 2022 is also particularly interesting because it is the predecessor of the next generation Perodua Alza.
The new Toyota Avanza code named d26a will be the twin model of the next generation Perodua Alza, which is similar to the arrangement of Perodua Aruz and Toyota rush.
The new Avanza and the next generation Alza will be based on the DNGA platform, so they basically share the same architecture in terms of chassis, power system and safety system.
