Design
The front of the Kia Sportage Malaysia is higher than many SUVs, which is one of the controversial parts. The grille is still Kia-style with the badge above it. The headlights are slim and the fog lights are higher than other cars as well. If you lower the car, it looks like a hatchback on the profile.
Lighting
※Xenon headlamps
※LED DRLs
※LED tail lamps
Wheels
※18” ALLOY WHEEL (EX)
※GT LINE 19” ALLOY WHEEL
Interior
The layout of the central console is simple and tidy, especially the 7-inch color LCD touchscreen audio dashboard is sloped to the driver’s side and this is very considerate.
Instrument Cluster
For the GT variant, Kia Sportage Malaysia has provided a 4.2-inch color TFT-LCD display, which can show some basic information about the car to the driver.
Space and Practicality
Passengers at the front and rear can get adequate headroom and knee room. In addition, the rear seats can be laid down as 60:40.
Boot
The cargo room of the Kia Sportage Malaysia is 466 litres, if you want more, you can lay down the rear seats.

Powertrain
Engine
For the EX, Kia Sportage Malaysia has offered a Nu 2.0 MPI engine which can produce 155ps @ 6200rpm and 192Nm @ 4000rpm, while the GT is an R 2.0 CRDi VGT engine delivering 185ps @ 4000rpm and 400Nm @ 1750-2750rpm.
Transmission
Both of the two versions use the same 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Drive System
The EX is 2WD and the GT Line is AWD.
Driving Performance
The EX’s speeding-up is not so ideal so if you want good acceleration, you better choose the GT.
Engine Performance
In terms of EX, the engine parameters are not as good as many people expect, especially the rev of the top torque while the GT is very good.
Transmission Performance
The 8-speed gearbox feels smooth on the road and there’s not much jerk.
Steering and Handling
The chassis and suspension are acceptable but when it comes to the EX, it gives you a wrong sense that the steering wheel is heavy.
Ride Comfort
The voice isolation is good inside the cabin but when you are driving at high speed, there may be some noise.
Passenger Comfort
The front seats can warp you well but the back and thigh support is not as good as some people expected.
Fuel Economy
The EX variant’s fuel efficiency is about 7.9l/100km while the GT is about 6.5l/100km.
Conclusion
As many people argue about Kia Sportage’s appearance, we may find out that the engines of both versions are controversial as well. For a Korean-made SUV in the Malaysian auto market, Kia Sportage Malaysia seems very hard to beat its competitors in some ways.
