Say goodbye to the Honda e EV after its 3-year electric adventure, as it's making room for the zippy electric HR-V 01

Though it's never been zipping around in the Philippines, chances are you've spotted this adorable electric chariot in a photo or two. It's been the talk of the town in Japan and Europe, but now, Honda Japan's dropped a bit of a news bomb: they're wrapping up its production in January 2024. So, it's adios to the Honda e!

Built with love at the Saitama plant, the Honda e's European vacation is coming to an end too. Honda Europe spilled the beans to Top Gear, saying "No more orders for this electric cutie!" But don't fret, there's a new kid on the block: the HR-V-based e:Ny1. Talk about an electric sequel!

This little electric gem was a nod to the 2017 Urban EV Concept, a sweet homage to Honda's compact classics like the N600 and the OG Civic. Fast forward to 2019, and voilà, the first Honda e prototype hit the scene, teasing us with peeks of what was to come in 2020.

Sure, everyone and their dog loved its retro-futuristic swagger, but alas, it wasn't quite the sales superstar. Maybe it was the hefty price tag - starting at a cool 37,000 British Pounds in the UK (that's about 2.26 mil Pesos, if you're counting) - or maybe it was the modest 220 km range on a single charge. Either way, it didn't quite hit the mark.

But let's not forget, the Honda e wasn't Honda's first electric rodeo. That honor goes to the 90s sensation, the lease-only Honda EV Plus. Yet, the Honda e was the first to roll off the mass production line, paving the way for a future filled with Honda EVs. By 2040, Honda's planning to switch off the internal combustion engines and go all-in on electric power. Vroom vroom to the electric future!
