Just like old times! PACS returns to Mindanao for 2023 season

The Philippine Autocross Championship Series (PACS) is renowned for being the “farthest-reaching motorsport event” in the country.

That’s because, over its two-decade history, the series regularly held rounds in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The champions from each island group would then compete in a one-make grand finale to find the PACS Driver of the Year.

But over the last few years, PACS has limited its operations to Luzon – until this season.

The series announced in a Facebook post that it would be launching the 2023 PACS Southern Series.

“We are going to bring back the Visayas and Mindanao rounds of the Philippine Autocross Championship Series like what my father used to do,” PACS Race Director Sam Santiago-Escalante, daughter of the late PACS founder and racing legend Danny Santiago, told AutoFun Philippines.

Although the venue and schedule have yet to be finalized, the PACS Southern Series may have at least five rounds this year.

Back in Metro Manila

Santiago-Escalante also told AutoFun Philippines about the “tremendous” success of PACS Round 4 last April 2023.

“The turnout was exceptional, with a high number of attendees from all over the metro,” she said.

PACS Round 4 was held at Ayala Land Premier’s Parklinks Estate in Pasig City and is situated along the C-5 highway. It was the first PACS round in Metro Manila since 2020.

“The marketing efforts were effective in generating interest and attracting the right audience, which helped to create a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere,” Santiago-Escalante said.

“Secondly, attendees were able to learn new skills, gain valuable insights and network with individuals that share the same interest, which made for a fulfilling and rewarding experience for everyone,” she added.

She said PACS will continue to push for more Metro Manila venues to sustain high attendance in the Luzon rounds.
