Electrification on the way: Isuzu to make a fully electric pickup truck 01

Isuzu to make an electric-only pickup truck soon that may have the underpinnings of the Isuzu Elf EV.

No, it's not yet the electric version of the Isuzu D-MAX, but it appears the Japanese automaker is gearing up to make an electric-only version of a pick-up truck very soon.

While no timelines were revealed, Isuzu wants to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market with a pick-up truck.

Isuzu president and COO Shinsuke Minami shared during the 2024 Isuzu D-MAX launch that the automaker is currently making strides for a carbon-neutral society. The company must make an electric pick-up truck tough and reliable to achieve this goal.

“Isuzu will first introduce it in Europe and then examine its gradual rollout by meeting the needs of each market, including Thailand,” said Minami.

No specifications about the upcoming EV pickup truck have been revealed, so we don’t know how much range it will have or how fast it will be able to recharge its batteries.

However, it could utilize the architecture found in the electric-only version of the Isuzu Elf or Isuzu N-Series found in other countries.

The new EV is rumored to have a ladder-frame chassis, which could make it easier to transfer over the electric drivetrain from the light-duty truck Elf into the new pickup truck with only a few modifications.

However, as it is a rumor, Isuzu may develop a new system for the upcoming zero-emissions pickup.

There has yet to be a word as to when the Philippines will get the electrified pickup truck as Europe is set to get the EV first, with other markets set to receive it soon after.

It will be a while before it enters the Southeast Asian region. It will be a waiting game to see what Isuzu will do next about its pursuit of electrification.

Would you go for an EV made by Isuzu?
