BYD Philippines is gearing up for the local market as it sees more car buyers being informed about the value of an electric vehicle (EV).

More buyers know that getting an EV can save them money on fuel expenses. It will also help them save on maintenance costs as EVs have fewer moving components than their internal combustion engine counterparts.

Full force at MIAS 2023

BYD Philippines, under its local distributor Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp, recently held a successful campaign at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show.

The EV brand showcased its latest lineup of vehicles at the event, including the BYD Dolphin, BYD Han, and BYD Tang. The vehicle displays showed off what the brand had to offer for its clean and green mobility options in the country.

A global leader

BYD, in general, has solidified itself as the world’s no 1 EV brand, according to a report published by Visual Capitalist. The Chinese brand has surpassed its competitors globally by achieving remarkable growth of 211% in 2022. The achievement has propelled the brand to become the new EV leader, even outpacing the likes of Tesla in terms of global EV production.

According to Visual Capitalist, the EV brand will become the first automaker worldwide to produce over 2 million EVs in a single year.

Once it reaches this achievement, it will be a testament to the brand, as it will showcase its exceptional quality, new-age designs, and dedication to revolutionizing the auto industry globally.

A powerhouse in Thailand

Over in the neighboring ASEAN nation of Thailand, the Chinese EV brand has accelerated its pace by bringing  5,000 cars into the country under a tax incentive on imports arrangement with the government.

According to a report from CarNewsChina.com, BYD officially became Thailand’s pure EV sales leader, with the ATTO 3 model emerging as the top-selling unit with 1,040 vehicles sold.

In March of 2023, BYD announced that it had delivered 12,000 EV SUVs to the Thai market proving its popularity in the country. The EV brand is also set to open its new Rayong production hub in the country, with production numbers expected to reach 150,000 units in 2024.

Why should you choose a BYD EV?

BYD EVs are a practical option as they offer significant savings when it comes to charging costs and maintenance compared to gasoline or diesel cars.

The brand estimates that it will cost you an average of ₱12 per kilowatt-hour for electricity compared to the standard of ₱56 to ₱65 per liter of gasoline or diesel. That said, BYD drivers can experience savings of up to 60% on their overall fuel expenditure.

Thanks to its patented Blade battery and e-Platform 3.0, customers can save up to ₱500,000 (₱100,000 annually) in maintenance costs compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles over five years.
BYD EVs also give eco-sustainable rewards to their customers as they contribute to a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to ICE vehicles. Over their lifespan, EVs emit approximately 40% less CO2, helping mitigate climate change and supporting the Philippines' commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Impressive warranty

Solar Transport, the distributor of the brand in the Philippines, also assures its customers that each BYD EV has access to exceptional after-sales service and support, including an extensive warranty coverage of 8 years or 150,000 kilometers (industry standard). The company’s trained mechanics are dedicated to providing reliable customer service, and with the aggressive global expansion efforts and government-backed incentives taking place, BYD owners in the Philippines can expect peace of mind, continuous assistance, and a seamless ownership experience.

What do you think of BYD's rise as a top EV brand?
