The popularity of automatic scooters in the local market is ever increasing. To mark its share in this particular space, Yamaha offers a strong lineup and in the 125cc segment, the much-acclaimed Mio i 125 hold the torch for the bike maker. Not only did Yamaha Mio i 125 managed to grab the attention of the customers, it has also managed to keep the sales figures increasing over the years, giving a hard time to its close competitors like Honda. The currently available version of the scooter was introduced in the year 2019 and we might see some cosmetic updates from Yamaha to offer something new to the customer.

    Variant and Price

Yamaha Mio i 125 comes in, yellow, cyan and magenta. Yamaha Mio i 125 in the Philippines price starts at Php 75,900. The Mio i 125S comes in special matte black edition and is available at Php 80,400.

  • Design

Yamaha has kept a balance in focus while designing the frame, which is light, slim and gives easy to handle experience to the rider. The body has been shaped quite well with perfectly sculpted ends. It comes with an aggresive front face to show a bold looking. At the front, the stylish headlamp along with the turn indicators give a commanding look. The high wheel guard further enhances the overall appeal of the scooter in an effective manner. The 'MIO' graphics don't look much and blend well with the color combination. IN short, the design is funky and in-line with the taste of the Millenials. On the other hand, the 3D "MIO" badge on the S variant looks edgy and makes this variant stand out.

Coming to the equipment list, the instrument panel displays all the important information in a smart and clean manner. Though you don't get a digital display, the analog panel is designed to highlight each detail in an effective manner. One of its highlights is the Eco indicator, that guides the rider to maintain the speed for the maximum fuel efficiency. The riding position is upright and optimal. The seat cushioning is something that we cannot complain about and provides adequate comfort to the rider and the pillion. Further, the M-shaped bar unit not just adds to the styling quo of the scooter, it has a very important utility aspect as well.

  • Engine & Fuel Consumption

Equipped with Yamaha's Blue Core engine, the Mio i 125 promises maximum power at minimal fuel consumption. Yet, Yamaha takes this claim to another level as the Mio i 125S comes with the Stop and Start System, where your engine will automatically switch off after 3 seconds of being idle to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption, your battery is well-protected and you can easily return to your riding with its quick start function that is possible because of the stored air-fuel mixture in your engine.

  • Ride & Handling

Everything is designed to give an optimal ride quality. The 14-inch wheels strikes a balance between high-speed stability and manageable handling at low speed. The telescopic front fork at the front and the swingarm at the rear makes a good setup for the smooth absorption of uneven roads. Tubeless tires also allow lesser tire pressure for better grip and a more compliant ride quality.

  • Braking & Safety

Braking duties are handled by a single disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The overall setup gives good stopping power but the rider might have to be cautious of timely braking at higher speeds. Sudden engagement of the brakes might cause the wheels to lock up, making the tires loose traction. The 14-inch wheels with 80- and 90-sections tires at the front and the rear respectively keeps the scooter firm and provide requisite stability. Both the Mio i 125 and the Mio 1 125S are equipped with Smart Stand Switch, where the engine shuts-off whenever the side stand in use. This adds safety to your riding as it prevents you from riding off without folding up the stand.

In addition, the S variant gets an Integrated Keyhole Shutter and Answer Back System. This helps deter thieves from stealing your unit and it will also help you find your parking spot in a crowded parking lot. As you press the button on the key, your unit will sound a beep to signal its location. This will also serve as an anti-theft device as your unit will give-off a beeping alarm whenever someone tampers with your parked unit.
