ICYMI: Guinness World Records set by Philippine motorcycle riders 01

The Philippine motorcycle industry is a late-bloomer of sorts compared to neighboring markets in the Southeast Asian region.

Yet Filipino riders, it seems, are making up for lost time and have been making waves to get recognition on the world stage.

I suppose one of the best ways to get noticed is to set a Guinness World Record and we have made quite a few, even breaking a couple of previous records in recent years.

Largest parade of Yamaha motorcycles

On June 7, 2014, Yamaha Motor Philippines, in association with Ad Staunch Communication Network Inc., staged the largest parade of Yamaha motorcycles at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.

A total of 1,208 Yamaha motorcycle owners and YClub members converged at the SM Mall of Asia Complex and successfully beat Italy's previous record set in 2003.

Official Guinness World Records guidelines specify that all vehicles must be moving, with a required minimum parade distance of 3.2 kilometers. The Y-Club is the largest motorcycle club in the country, having an estimated 85,000 members nationwide at the time.

Largest road safety lesson

guinness world record suzuki

Suzuki Philippines Inc. (SPH) initially attempted to break the record set by India (2,700 participants) on January 2017.

But Suzuki decided to abort due to the extreme heat wave experienced at the Quirino Grandstand.

Suzuki made a second attempt on February 26, 2017 at the air-conditioned World Trade Center in Pasay City. With 4,178 participants, it topped India's record.

To achieve the title, traffic signs and regulations had to be included in the lecture, with a minimum duration of 30 minutes.

The largest parade of motorcycles with sidecars (tricycles)

With 681 tricycle units participating, the record for the largest parade of motorcycles with sidecars was set by the joint effort of the City Government of Cauayan, Isabela, Ropali Motorcycles (motorcycle dealership), History Channel and Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI).

The parade was held in Cauayan, Isabela on April 8, 2015.

Most motorcycle horns/engines sounded simultaneously

Having 3,177 participants, the successful attempt at Koronadal City, South Cotabato on April 29, 2017 broke the previous record set by Yamaha Motor Philippines in 2014.

Peter Miguel, the City Government of Koronadal, Petron Corporation, National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs, Inc. and South Cotabato Motorcycle Clubcord set this new record.

Largest simultaneous motorcycle burnout

Probably the most awesome record in the list, this was set by the brave 300, who together burned out their tires (mostly scooters) in the name of patriotism and global warming.

The successful attempt, organized by KYMCO Philippines, History Channel, Ropali Motorcycles and FDR tires was staged in Tagaytay City on April 11, 2015, beating the previous record set by the USA in 2006.

How about you? What Guinness Record-breaking attempt would you like to participate in?
