  • Overview

The NMAX ABS is the most affordable maxi scooter from the premium MAX range of maxi-scooters in the Yamaha stable. The Yamaha NMAX ABS is targeted towards those buyers who wish to have a fuel-efficient scooter that is also comfortable for longer rides. The Yamaha NMAX ABS may be an entry-level model in Yamaha's MAX line up but it comes with the bells and whistles found on its bigger siblings.

Aside from having advanced technological features, the Yamaha NMAX ABS also exudes a premium appeal that does not feel out of place in a cosmopolitan setting. Its over all character will set you apart from most commuter riders on the road.

  • Design

For a 155cc scooter, the NMAX ABS looks fairly large with its sizeable body panels and a curvaceous design. It looks one size above the Yamaha Mio Aerox, but has a much subtler design, which should definitely appeal to a more mature set of buyers. The absence of colorful decals on the NMAX ABS adds meaning to the expression "less is more".
The handlebar switch control has a convenient lever-style switch for scrolling through displayed data. The seat design with a two-level seat provides comfort & plenty of space for both the rider and passenger. It adopts a 6-bulb LED headlight design. Four lights on the top row for low beam and two below for high beam. The rear stylish taillight shows off a unique three-dimensional design that is absolute MAX DNA.
The NMAX ABS gets a pair of step boards instead of a floorboard because of the presence of a tunnel panel in the middle, which is quite common in maxi-scooters. The small fly screen is deliberately so to shield the instrument panel from the glare of the sun but not so much to offer wind protection. The leg shield, however, not only give protection from the elements but also form road debris. Turn indicators are integrated in the panels to give it a clean, elegant look.

  • Powertrain

The Yamaha NMAX ABS has a 155cc liquid-cooled Blue Core engine which makes 11.3 kW of maximum power and 13.9 Nm of torque. Yamaha's Blue Core technology maximizes fuel combustion and increases cooling efficiency, thereby reducing power loss. The NMAX ABS is also equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system which gives better torque at low speed and higher power at high speed.
This system adjusts the fuel intake at a certain rpm; it allows strong torque at low speeds and power at high speeds. It contributes to linear acceleration characteristics and a pleasing feeling when accelerating.

  • Ride & Handling

The overall suspension setup of the NMAX ABS, comprising of hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and hydraulic coil springs at the back, has been tuned to a softer side, to make the overall ride quality comfortable enough for even longer rides. Smaller 13-inch wheels on the NMAX ABS make the handling relatively light, despite its size. The fuel tank is placed under the center tunnel panel not only to free up some additional space in the under-seat compartment, but also to lower the center of gravity. Hence, the light and easy handling.

While the Yamaha NMAX ABS does not have a flat floorboard, it does have a pair of step boards that extends towards the front. This allows the rider to stretch out his legs during longer trips for a more leisurely riding experience.

  • Braking & Safety

Yamaha definitely did not scrimp on safety. The NMAX ABS, as the name suggests, has dual channel ABS and has Traction Control System as well. The Yamaha NMAX ABS also features the Y-connect system, which enables the rider to pair the unit to his smartphone via the Y-connect app. This brand exclusive app has several useful functions like fuel-consumption tracker and mechanical malfunction detector.

This application is a brand exclusive that links your smartphone directly to your Yamaha motorcycle. It is equipped with Communication Control Unit (CCU) that handles data & info exchange within the app. You can now track your fuel consumption and analyze important data, get maintenance recommendations, be notified of any malfunctions, confirm the last record of your parking location, and more so you can have a convenient and enjoyable riding experience

  • Engine & Fuel Consumption

The Yamaha NMAX ABS features a Start and Stop system which automatically shuts-off the engine when idling at stop lights. Just blip them throttle and the engine fires up in no time. While Yamaha did not release an official number on the NMAX ABS’ fuel mileage but we managed around 37.9 kilometers per liter in our own test. This was done under normal riding conditions in urban areas.

  • Summary

At Php 150,000, the Yamaha NMAX ABS gives excellent value for money. You get a comfortable, elegant ride with all the electronic nannies you'll ever need. The NMAX ABS is an ideal ride for those who live in the outskirts of the city and regularly go on distance commute. It is equipped with enough creature comfort features to tide you over as you navigate through the urban jungle.

The NMAX ABS has ample grunt to enable the rider to maintain cruising speed for extended periods. While the NMAX ABS is perfectly at home in the metropolis, it could hold its own on open roads during the weekend.
