Aside from crossovers and SUVs, pickup trucks are getting rapidly popular these days, following the introduction of several models in the class from different car manufacturers. To compete in the growing market, Jeep introduced the 2022 Gladiator with a more promising performance and uniquely promising features. If you happen to love the look, the functionalities, and the performance of the iconic Jeep Wrangler, you might as well take a look over what they call its pickup truck version – the 2022 Jeep Gladiator.

Variants

There are two Jeep Gladiator variants available in the Philippines this 2022, the Gladiator Sport and the Gladiator Rubicon. The Jeep Gladiator Sport 3.6 Automatic Transmission variant is available at Php3,890,000 while the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon 3.6 Automatic Transmission top-of-the-line variant has more than a million-peso difference at Php4,990,000.

Both the Sport and Rubicon come in nine colors – the Black Clear Coat, Sting-Gray Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Coat, Silver Zynith Clear Coat, Snazzberry Pearl Coat, Hydro Blue Pearl Coat, Firecracker Red Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, and Sarge Green Clear Coat.

Powertrain System

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator has a powerful off-road capability as it shares the same platform with its sibling Jeep Wrangler. It carries a 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 gasoline-powered engine that produces a maximum of 285 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 352-Newton meters of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission in a four-wheel drivetrain configuration.

Exterior

Without a second thought, the Gladiator is indeed a Jeep because of its rugged-looking front fascia featuring its iconic seven vertical slot radiator vent grille and round headlamps on each side, complemented by its bulging hood that tapers down towards the front clip. The fog lamps are located on each side of the plastic-made, massive front bumper. On the other hand, the LED daytime running lights and indicators are positioned horizontally on the fenders, emphasizing their width and adding aggressiveness to the Gladiator. Some details complete its front profile, including the hood lock clips that work manually, and a massively-spelled Rubicon on the side of the hood.

On the side of this pickup truck, the Gladiator has 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels on a massive 33-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain 75 series tires with disc brakes all around. It comes with skid plates all over to protect key components, as well as front and rear tow hooks to help other cars having trouble on the road.

At the back, the Gladiator promises 771 kilograms of payload to its 1,531 millimeters long, 1,137 millimeters wide, and 861 millimeters high cargo bed. It may not be able to load a ton of cargo like its competitors in the market, it is a promising off-roader. When the tailgate is closed, the third brake light is found on top of the massive Jeep badge beside the door handle. On each side, the rear lights and turn signal lights are box-shaped and embossed, which emphasizes the width of the Gladiator.

Interior

Getting inside the Gladiator, the interior design of this pickup truck will make you feel comfortable; its soft-touch surfaces and precise shapes bring out its elegant appeal. The dashboard comes in soft-touch leather with contrast stitching of black and red, which is exclusive to the Rubicon variant. The air-con vents follow the classic round shape around the cabin.

The steering wheel is wrapped in soft-leather material, as well, and comes with infotainment and functionality buttons to have easy control for the driver. Behind the steering wheel is the instrument cluster, which comes in classic analog gauges with a digital information screen in the middle. At the center of the panel is an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also comes with an HD reverse camera display and several off-road functionality displays and controls.

The Gladiator's seats come almost the same as other pickup trucks in the market. The rear passenger seats also come with cubbies underneath for extra storage and to maximize the space. All seats are well-bolstered and comfortable. It has enough legroom for all the passengers regardless of their height. And even though the rear seats cannot be reclined, the back support is enough to make you feel comfortable throughout your entire day of adventure.

One of the greatest selling points of the Gladiator over its rivals in the market is its removable roofs, windshield, and even doors, just like its sibling Jeep Wrangler. Indeed, the Gladiator is one of a kind in its segment in terms of versatility. With this feature, off-roading will be much more adventurous and enjoyable.

Safety and Security

The 2022 Gladiator comes with safety features including ABS with EBD, traction control, front and side impact beams, crash sensor, engine check warning, tire pressure monitor, door ajar warning, parking sensors, rear camera, and vehicle stability control system. It also has the standard driver and passenger airbags and seat belts with seat belt warning to ensure the safety of the passengers while off-roading. It also has security features like central locking, anti-theft device, power door locks, and engine immobilizer.
