The Taiwanese brand SYM’s current popularity in the local market is but a pale shadow of the prestige it enjoyed about a decade ago.

While its distributor, Mitsukoshi Motors, ranked 6th place in 2022 in terms of market share, this could be credited to the success of the other brands in its repertoire such as Keeway and Euro Motor.

Yet, we received confirmation that SYM will finally be launching the GPX Drone 150 anytime soon, our best guess is in March, and it would seem this will be a comeback of sorts for the brand as a new marketing executive will also be coming on board in the same month.

The GPX Drone 150, also known in other markets as the Jet X, was initially launched in Thailand in 2021. This particular model is a product of a collaboration between SYM and GPX, a Thailand-based motorcycle brand.

It is likely that we will already get the 2022 updated version which has the 149.6 cc, liquid-cooled 4-valve engine. It also features a full digital display, all-LED lights, and keyless operation.

You would be forgiven for expecting ABS as standard on a scooter in this segment but they might be offering it as an option to keep the base price down. In any case, you get front and rear discs with a combi-brake system.

With the exposed handlebar, a tunnel panel, and 14-inch rubbers, it would seem the GPX Drone 150 is gunning for the Honda PCX160 market.

While the former might be lacking ABS and traction control, what it has is more aggressive styling, as opposed to the rather bland look of the latter, and presumably, a lower price tag.

Based on Thailand pricing, the GPX Drone 150 should be between ₱110,000 to ₱120,000. If priced higher than that, then it would be a tough battle for SYM as the CBS version of the PCX160 is only priced at ₱133,900.
