Last year, Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. announced to the global community its goal of achieving zero road crashes for its motorcycle customers by 2050.

During the presentation, the manufacturing giant also shared its midterm management plans (2022 to 2024) in achieving this using these three pillars as guide: Technology, Rider Skills and Connectivity.

For Rider Skills, Yamaha plans to bolster its Yamaha Riding Academy (YRA) courses and make them more readily available to customers.

As for Technology and Connectivity, it has already made the initial basis for these two by coming out with motorcycle models equipped with technology-based and connectivity-based safety features. One of which is the Yamaha NMAX.

Aside from other technological features that make the NMAX one the most powerful and efficient entry-level maxi scooters out there, here are also some key features that make it one of the safest as well.

Traction Control System

This feature prevents rear wheel slippage during acceleration on low-traction surfaces.

The system uses electronic sensors that detect wheelspin and regulates power delivery to the rear wheel. This way, you can rest assured that the NMAX will keep its rubber side down even when you unintentionally give a little too much throttle input as you exit a corner.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)

When it was launched locally back in 2016, the Yamaha NMAX was one of the first motorcycles in the market equipped with ABS.

In fact, this safety feature was practically unheard of in the commuter scooter segment and buyers initially had reservations about this unfamiliar technology. Hence, Yamaha had to offer the NMAX in a non-ABS variant.

Presently, the NMAX has only one variant, which features ABS as standard. This is a testament to the brand's commitment to its road safety goals.

Y-connect

This brand-exclusive, app-based feature makes a digital connection between motorcycle and rider possible.

It gives access to relevant information that could be vital in the safe operation of your NMAX. The Y-connect has a malfunction notification so you won’t go out riding on a compromised machine.

The rider will be notified of any mechanical or electrical issues as he or she turns on the ignition. It also reads out service recommendations, such as for oil-change requirements or low battery status.

Although we have already come a long way in terms of technological advancement, we still have a long way to go to achieve Yamaha’s goal of zero crashes.

While we already have amazing rider aids to help mitigate hazards, motorcycle safety still ultimately depends on the nut which connects the handlebar to the saddle.
