  • Design

For a 155cc scooter, the Yamaha NMAX exterior looks fairly large with its sizeable body panels and a curvaceous design. It looks one size above the Yamaha Mio Aerox, but has a much subtler design, which should definitely appeal to a more mature set of buyers. The absence of colorful decals on the NMAX ABS adds meaning to the expression "less is more".
The handlebar switch control has a convenient lever-style switch for scrolling through displayed data. The seat design with a two-level seat provides comfort & plenty of space for both the rider and passenger. It adopts a 6-bulb LED headlight design. Four lights on the top row for low beam and two below for high beam. The rear stylish taillight shows off a unique three-dimensional design that is absolute MAX DNA.

The Yamaha NMAX gets a pair of step boards instead of a floorboard because of the presence of a tunnel panel in the middle, which is quite common in maxi-scooters. The small fly screen is deliberately so to shield the instrument panel from the glare of the sun but not so much to offer wind protection. The leg shield, however, not only give protection from the elements but also form road debris. Turn indicators are integrated in the panels to give it a clean, elegant look.

    Dimension

The dimensions of the NMAX is 1935mm length x 740mm width x 1160mm height.

  • Powertrain

The Yamaha NMAX has a 155cc liquid-cooled Blue Core engine which makes 11.3 kW of maximum power and 13.9 Nm of torque. Yamaha's Blue Core technology maximizes fuel combustion and increases cooling efficiency, thereby reducing power loss. The NMAX is also equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system which gives better torque at low speed and higher power at high speed.
This system adjusts the fuel intake at a certain rpm; it allows strong torque at low speeds and power at high speeds. It contributes to linear acceleration characteristics and a pleasing feeling when accelerating.

  • Ride & Handling

The overall suspension setup of the NMAX, comprising of hydraulic telescopic fork at the front and hydraulic coil springs at the back, has been tuned to a softer side, to make the overall ride quality comfortable enough for even longer rides. Smaller 13-inch wheels on the NMAX ABS make the handling relatively light, despite its size. The fuel tank is placed under the center tunnel panel not only to free up some additional space in the under-seat compartment, but also to lower the center of gravity. Hence, the light and easy handling.

While the Yamaha NMAX does not have a flat floorboard, it does have a pair of step boards that extends towards the front. This allows the rider to stretch out his legs during longer trips for a more leisurely riding experience.
