Small cars seem to have limited capabilities and features to improve as they come with limited space too. However, Honda Motor Corporation made sure that the possibilities are limitless with the 2022 Brio as it was upgraded to a better-looking and better-performing hatchback than its outgoing version. Brio greeted 2022 with an aggressive facelift and more efficient engine properties.
The Brio has always been a good-looking hatchback, and the 2022 version has gotten much better because of the design update made by Honda. It now appeals to have a sportier approach, and the style goes with the trend that we see on big cars like SUVs and popular crossovers. Although the Brio is a small car, its exterior invites attention on the road, and it has an overall aggressive exterior beauty.
The 2022 Honda Brio comes with a 1.2-liter i-VTEC gasoline-powered engine that produces 89 horsepower and 110-Newton meters of torque. For the Brio’s size, the 1.2-liter engine is more than necessary to pull the load and is capable of bringing out a nice performance while saving a good amount of fuel. It unexpectedly runs like a well-maintained full-size sedan on a highway drive.
Given that the Brio is a small car, the space is expectedly limited. However, it comes with a generously spacious cabin for a small car compared to its competitors in the market. It provides enough legroom space for average to above-average size passengers. It can fit four to five adults depending on body size, although it would be ideal if there would only be two adults and/or a child at the back.
Contributing to the riding comfort the Brio has, is its smooth gear shifting capability. If a car doesn’t have a smooth gear shifting capability, the passengers could easily feel the change in the mechanism of the car; but it isn’t the case with the Brio. Aside from it provides better riding comfort, the smooth gear shifting capability of the Brio gives the driver more stability and easy maneuverability over the car.
Even though Honda updated the exterior of the Brio to match the current trend, the company went old-school for its interior aesthetics. The cabin features a soft dashboard and steering wheel materials with soft fabric-covered seats, which provides additional comfort for the driver and the passengers.
Having an excellent braking and steering response is essential in having a safe drive. Not only that the Honda Brio has excellent brakes that respond quickly, especially in times of trouble; the easy to maneuver steering wheel allows the driver to handle the driving easily. Both the brakes and the steering wheel correspond to the powerful performance the Brio does.
Since it comes with a 1.2-liter engine, the power it produces is more than sufficient to pull a load of a small car, even if it is fully loaded. Because of that, the Brio doesn’t need to consume more fuel to add power. If the engine is tired because of the heavy load, the tendency is for the engine to consume more fuel, which is not the case with the Brio.
Having a power window nowadays for your car is just the norm, that is why if you encounter a new model without a power window, it feels odd and disappointing. The same thing with the new Honda Brio, the model comes with manually-opened and closed windows except for the driver. Not only that, the power window for the driver is only for opening, and not for closing the window. It would’ve been easy for the passengers if they don’t have to manually operate their windows.
There are several colors you could choose from when having the Honda Brio. It comes in Carnival Yellow, Modern steel Metallic, Taffeta White, Rallye Red, and the Phoenix Orange Pearl. However, whatever color you choose doesn’t mean that the interior goes along with what exterior color you have chosen; the interior accents are always in orange.
Unlike its competitors in the same class, Honda Brio still doesn’t support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for better connectivity and entertainment. Nevertheless, it comes with Bluetooth connectivity which allows the passengers to connect smartphones for entertainment and connectivity.
Aside from it doesn’t support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity; the Brio’s infotainment touchscreen is not supported by physical buttons and control knobs for the driver to have easy access while driving. The steering wheel has some infotainment controls, but you have to do the rest of the functions on the touchscreen display as the controls on the steering wheel are limited.
Overall, the 2022 Honda Brio has impressively broken its boundaries and proven that even a small car is capable of more than expected. It may not be impressive in some aspects, but it aces on the most important attributes a vehicle should have.
