An Overview of the New Toyota Vios 2022

For almost 19 years since its first release, Toyota Vios has always been a top-selling subcompact sedan car. Sought after in the automotive market for its impressive features for a friendly price. Toyota Motors has made Vios flexible and affordable, making it a top choice among car buyers who considers both functionality and affordability. From Php 681,000 up to as much as Php 1,035,000, Filipinos have a lot to choose from the wide selection of variants that fit their needs and wants.

Toyota’s fresh release of the Vios in 2022 has a lot to promise from the Vios base MT variant to its sportier offer, the GR-S variant. The model has an overall dimension of 4,425 x 1,730 x 1,475 mm and 2,550 mm wheelbase. Tires come in 195/50 R16 alloy and ventilated disc/solid disc for the front brake/rear brake.

All 2022 Vios variants offered by Toyota in the Philippines run in a gasoline engine with 1329 cc, 1496 cc displacement. All variants have 4 cylinders and 4 valves per cylinder. Available in both 5-speed manual and CVT transmission, depending on the variant. The new Vios’s 1.3 1NR-FE engine paired up with CVT, produces 98 hp and 123 Nm of torque. It may not be for a speedy ride, but it’s enough for a city drive. When it comes to quick highway drives, it will need more effort, especially when loaded with passengers. As for the front-wheel-drive 1.5 2NR-FE engine available in other variants, the steering wheel is nicely weighted, giving a highway drive more stability and easier maneuvering; giving a 106 horsepower, 140 Newton-meter torque.

As for the all-new 2022 look of the Toyota Vios, it has improved into a sleekier sedan. Paired with its comfortable seating that could accommodate up to five passengers, it is ideal for small families or personal use. With is upholstered with fabric interior for most of the variants. For the 1.3 Base trim, it comes in vinyl, while the GR-S variant uses synthetic leather with red stitching.

Toyota Motors introduced the Toyota Vios GR-S with a sportier appeal. With its honeycomb grille, wing, rear bumper with integrated bumper, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and aggressive-looking fog light housing; the GR-S is indeed a road attraction. This sporty-looking variant has a massive campaign to the market with the Toyota GR Vios Cup.

Infotainment is upscaled as well. Filipinos love entertainment on the go, and Vios doesn’t fail to bring a 6.75-inch infotainment screen, supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with six or four speakers depending on the variant. Variants 1.3  base and J are installed with a 2DIN head unit complemented by two speakers.

Toyota Vios offers an impressively high standard safety feature. All variants are equipped with an airbag for the driver and the passenger, a knee airbag for the driver, hill-start assist control, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, a vehicle stability control, and ISOFIX tethers. Variants E, G, and GR-S get additional side curtain and curtain shield airbags. A back monitor is added in variants G and GR-S, while the flagship gets a clearance sonar for easy parking.
