2023 Honda Civic Type-R said to cost ₱3.6-₱3.9 M, Philippine launch on Jan. 19

A new hot hatchback is coming to the Philippines with the recent reveal announcement of the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. According to our sources, it will reportedly be priced anywhere from an eye-watering 3.6 to 3.9 million pesos—a hefty jump from the ₱3,210,000 swansong price of the previous generation Civic Type R.

According to a report from Autoindustriya the new model will reportedly be unveiled in the Philippines on January 19, 2023. This follows the recent introduction of the hot hatch to the Vietnamese market last October 2022, which we previously reported.

The Honda Civic Type-R FK8 was a big hit in the Philippine market in 2017, with its initial batch of 100 units already being spoken for in less than 48 hours. The automaker would then bring in another batch but at a slightly higher price point that would also be met with similar success.

Following this momentum, Honda Philippines will bring in the new FL5 Civic Type-R based on the 11-generation Honda Civic.

What to expect from the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R?

The new model will represent the pinnacle of the Civic line with high performance in mind that is designed to win races and set lap records. Just like the previous versions, the new Civic Type-R will use the hatchback platform of the Honda Civic.

It will feature the latest design language from Honda with a more subdued sporty look instead of the previous version’s angular and louder styling.

It is powered by a 2.0-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that makes 320 PS and 420 Nm of torque. Like before, it will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission with automatic rev-matching and will only be sold as front-wheel drive.

The interior of the 2023 Civic Type-R will be decked in its signature red-and-black motif with new sports seats with more substantial shoulder and thigh bolstering.

Aside from this, it will retain the same dashboard and interior layout as the regular Honda Civic.

Honda Philippines has yet to release official specifications or pricing for the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R. However, the Vietnamese market, which was the first to receive an allocation for the FL5 Civic Type R in ASEAN, introduced the hot hatch with the following features:

  • Honda SENSING features:
    • Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)

    • Auto high beam (AHB)

    • Adaptive Cruise Control including Low Speed Follow (ACC with LSF)

    • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM)

    • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

    • Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN)

  • Agile Handling Assist (AHA)
  • 8 airbags
  • Blind Spot Information (BSI)
  • Cross-traffic alert (CTA)
  • Honda LogR
  • Honda CONNECT

The ₱3.6 to ₱3.9 million indicative pricing range may still change depending on current trends of the Philippine market and other factors such as peso-dollar exchange rate, shipping cost, allocation, and parts supply.
