Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. focusing on youth to promote road safety

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) takes its role in instilling road safety in the youth quite seriously. In partnership with AISEC, an international student youth leader organization, the Road Safety and Honda SENSING Experience for students was held last October 8th at the HCPI office in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The program aims to advance the consciousness and appreciation of young drivers for road safety and demonstrate how advanced safety technologies like Honda SENSING promote safe driving through an experiential drive.

Twenty-two youth leaders from seven college and university campuses participated in the learning session on road safety. Among the topics discussed by representatives of the Honda Safety Driving Center were driving behavior for young and beginning drivers, traffic rules and regulations, penalties for non-compliance, and common misconceptions. The attendees were also given tips on pre-drive inspections, defensive driving, and preventing distractions. 

The students were also able to experience the Honda SENSING safety features using the all-new Civic and all-new HR-V. Both vehicles use a wider field of view camera combined with improved software that achieves better vehicle, motorcycle, bicycle, pedestrian, and road marking recognition. An HCPI-certified driving instructor accompanied each vehicle used for the actual drive for proper guidance and safety as the student participants tried out the Honda SENSING safety features in a route drawn for the learning session.

“Honda wants to make our roads safer for you, our next generation, and for everyone we share the road with. This is one of the ways we are working to contribute to the development of society. With our collective effort, we can be more effective in preventing traffic accidents and injuries. I am grateful that you are taking part in this global campaign on road safety,” said HCPI president, Mr. Masahiko Nakamura.

The program aligns with Honda’s global target to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities from Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 2050. That is why Honda Sensing safety technologies are making their way into all Honda car models. Honda also aims to provide everyone with road safety education opportunities by 2030.

With the example of our own driving, we can reach more people, influence them to also observe safe driving habits, and help spread a better appreciation for road safety,” added Atty.
