All-new Toyota Vios: Indonesian market specs we would like to see here in the PH

The all-new Toyota Vios has finally been introduced in the Indonesian market. Aside from the new platform and its more elegant and classy fastback silhouette, the 4th generation Vios is packed with an extensive array of styling, comfort, and driving safety features that will surely disrupt the Philippine market once it launches here.

We listed some Indonesian domestic market specs and features in the Toyota Vios, which we hope Toyota Motor Philippines will equip the local units once it goes on sale.

17-inch wheels

The G CVT and G TSS CVT variants of the all-new Toyota Vios in Indonesia sport "futuristic-style" 17-inch alloy wheels. Given the car's larger dimensions which are 10 mm wider, 20 mm lower, and 70 mm longer at the wheelbase than the current Vios generation we have locally, having larger wheels seem to complement its heftier dimensions. This should make the all-new Vios appear more expensive and classier than its immediate competitors in the subcompact category.

Soft-touch interior materials

The G variant in the Indonesian Vios lineup gets a more upscale interior finish with soft-touch materials in the door trim design, instrument panels, knee pads, and armrests on the doors and center console. The premium vibe these materials exude is a step up from the predominantly plastic finish of current Vios offerings.

The 7-inch TFT instrument panel with digital LED speedometer

As with the ongoing trend of replacing physical dials and gauges on the instrument cluster with a display screen, the all-new Toyota Vios in Indonesia has a 7-inch display providing information to the driver. The Multi-Information Display has a choice of four pattern interfaces which the driver can choose based on their taste.

9-inch touchscreen infotainment

This is a real step up from the 7-inch currently available in the Vios. The new system is now positioned above the dashboard and occupies a prominent space that is easier to see while driving.

Electronic parking brake

Another modern convenience that does away with physical levers and cables in the all-new Vios is the electronic parking brake. In Indonesia, this feature comes with a Hold option so that you can step off the brake pedal and rest your right foot once the car comes to a complete stop. You can then drive away by stepping on the accelerator, and the parking brake will disengage automatically.

Toyota Safety Sense

The all-new Vios in Indonesia has nine safety features in its TSS package. Pre-Collision Warning and Brake Assist warns the driver of an impending risk of hitting another vehicle and can apply emergency stops if needed. Pedal Misoperation Control reduces the potential for accidents due to incorrect gas pedal application by turning on warning alarms, applying the brakes, and limiting power distribution.

There's also Lane Departure Warning along with Lane Departure Prevention which warns a driver when he is veering off his lane and prevents the car from changing lanes when the vehicle is moving sideways. The all-new Vios also has Auto High Beam, which turns on to increase visibility at night and automatically goes to low beam when a vehicle is detected in front.

Blind Spot Monitoring employs a graphic signal on the side mirrors to warn the driver of another vehicle creeping up from behind. Rear Cross Traffic Alert is also included to warn the driver of approaching vehicles when the car is parked.

Adaptive Cruise Control is also included in the Indonesian-specification all-new Vios, which maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front.  And finally, Front Departure Alert provides an audible warning when the car in front suddenly reverses while queuing in a traffic jam to prevent a collision.

Many of these features are more commonly found in higher-priced sedans and crossovers. Suppose Toyota Motor Philippines includes them even in the mid and top-grade variants of the all-new Vios. In that case, car buyers will indeed have a high-spec sedan that not only elevates the level of comfort and safety versus the outgoing model but also matches and exceeds other offerings in the segment.

Which feature do you want to see included in the all-new Vios?
