2022 Honda City: Does It Comes with Powerful Engine?

A beautiful machine, the 2022 Honda City combines its looks with great power and efficiency. Now, let’s look at the City under the hood.

Under the hood, the Honda City is run by an In-line 4 Cylinder 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine. The main difference of this engine to its predecessor is that it now has dual camshaft. This engine is Euro 4 compliant and is paired with either a manual transmission for the S variant, or CVTs with Earth Dreams Technology for the three variants – the S, the V, and the RS. The engine has a total displacement of 1498cc. It uses Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) for its fuel supply system. The engine output is 121 horsepower and 145 Newton meters of torque, more than enough for the daily drive.

In terms on fuel efficiency, the 1.5L engine paired with the CVT is most efficient. In the city, there are variable test results, but on average, it garners about 10-12 kilometers per liter. On the highway, the City does an impressive 20 kilometers per liter. Equally impressive is the fuel economy even on standing traffic or on idling, which produces about 8-9 kilometers by the liter. This shows the Honda City is best for the daily drive and of course, the occasional road trips. (Yes, you may bring the City outside of the city. Hehe.)

For long drives, engage Cruise Control with a button on the steering wheel to achieve even more fuel efficiency, or get a hold of more power after shifting to Sport Mode. With paddle shifters in the RS variant, there is more control not only on the power output but also on the side of handling.

All in all, the Honda City’s engine is a great piece of engineering, achieving maximum power output and balanced fuel efficiency for its type. Well, who can we trust more with powertrains than the manufacturer that brought us a new World Champion in Formula 1, and a constant winning competitor in Indy 500?

Get your hands on the new Civic. The 1.5L CVTs start from PhP 899,000. The RS variant is pegged at PhP 1,069,000.
