The next Toyota Innova may also be a Suzuki!

The Toyota Innova has been a staple of the Toyota Motor Philippines lineup for over a decade.

Built on the same platform and using the same engines as the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner, the seven-seat, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has made its name for being tough and practical, but without being too big or unwieldy.

But the latest teaser photo shows an all-new face that may feature completely different drivetrains under the hood. We played around with the photo to see a little more of the details of this upcoming MPV. Suffice it to say, the graphic artists of Toyota's agency did a fair job in redacting significant portions of the vehicle.

In an Oct. 24, 2022 Facebook post, Toyota Indonesia showed what it called "the next prestigious crossover."

Next to get hybrid treatment

Details about the next-generation Innova have been floating around as early as April 2022.

Our colleagues at AutoFun Indonesia noted that Toyota registered the name "Innova Hycross," with spyshots of a camouflaged MPV being tested in India and Thailand.

The upcoming Innova is also rumored to use an all-new platform that will incorporate a hybrid drivetrain. There is no word yet if regular gasoline or diesel engines will also be included.

AutoFun Indonesia also reported on October 2022 that the Innova Hycross will have a twin from Suzuki in the Indian market, which will slot above the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs.

The two Japanese carmakers already collaborate for several models in the Indian-market.

The Toyota Glanza is based on the Suzuki Baleno, while the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Urban Cruiser Hyryder are based on the Suzuki Vitara and Grand Vitara, respectively.

The Innova Hycross is expected to debut before the end of 2022.
