Does the 2022 Toyota Innova's Fuel Consumption Make It a Relevant Choice Today?

There are several words that best describe the global oil crisis this year – hilarious, crazy, devastating, pocket-burning, stressful, head-aching, catastrophic, and perhaps a few more we'd rather not mention. Oil price hikes are unpredictable and the figures seem out of the line.

I know that each one of us is doing our part to get over this plight. We are all working out alternatives to minimize financial heartbreak. Some have considered public modes of transportation like taking the bus, jeepney, and train. Others have put their hopes on electrified vehicles. And then there are those who look for more viable options among the current lineup of choices that can help reduce the impact of added fuel expenses.

The ideal family car

To be honest, most of us Filipinos can endure taking public transportation daily as we head to work, school, take vacations, or run errands. What drives most of us to work hard is the aspiration of being able to afford a car for our families. One that can provide them the comfort they deserve. And one of the most popular go-to family cars is the Toyota Innova

The quintessential multi-purpose vehicle known for its above-standard versatility and reliability, the Toyota Innova has been on top of its game since its introduction in 2005. In terms of its long list of favorable traits and capabilities over its rivals, its fuel-efficiency seems to be a constant standout.

Admit it or not, a fuel-efficient car is a gem these days. And driving a fuel-miser daily can help alleviate the burden on our monthly expenses. This is one of the reasons why the Toyota Innova has endeared itself to many Filipinos. They clicked because the Innova's performance complements its versatility. At the same time, it provides reasonable cabin comfort and is backed by the brand's legendary overall reliability.

Responsible for the Innova's fuel efficiency is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine that produces 174 ps and 360 Nm of torque when paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.  While Innovas with a 5-speed manual gearbox offer 170 ps and 343 Nm of torque output from the same engine.

With those powertrain properties, it is indeed fair to say that the Innova is a highly-capable car considering its big body and cargo carrying capacity. As it should be for an MPV. Despite that, Toyota has still managed to make it one of the most fuel-efficient family cars available in the local market, with an estimated 9 to 13 kilometers per liter in the city on fuel economy mode, and 17 to 18 kilometers on the highway.

Overall, for a sizeable chunk of the car market, the Toyota Innova seems be a vehicle that has it all. More importantly, during this time that we are facing a global oil crisis, the Toyota Innova's fuel efficiency makes it one of those cars that can truly save the day for many.
