10 Things You Should Know About Toyota GR Supra

Toyota Motor Corporation’s Supra has made its comeback with its refreshed looks and functionalities. The Toyota GR Supra is a fifth-generation grand tourer and sports car that has been launched in 2020. It is a successor of the 1978 Toyota Celica. The name ‘Supra” means “above” or “go beyond”, which Toyota believes best suits the Supra’s capabilities.

How much does it cost in the Philippines?

The Toyota GR Supra is available in three variants in the Philippine automotive market. The Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Turbo Inline-6 Automatic Transmission in Prominence Red Color is priced at Php4,990,000. The Black Metallic Toyota Supra 3.0 Turbo Inline-6 Automatic Transmission is available at Php5,050,000. While the Toyota GR Supra 3.0 Turbo Inline-6 Automatic Transmission Matte Storm Gray variant is at Php5,090,000. All three Supra variants are powered by a gasoline engine.

Platform and Powertrain

The Toyota GR Supra is mounted on a BMW’s Cluster Architecture platform and is powered by a 3.0-liter Inline 6-cylinder bi-turbocharged engine. It can produce up to 335 horsepower and 500 Newton meters of torque.

Suspension and brakes

The Supra’s front suspension is a double-joint MacPherson Strut, while multi-link suspension for the rear. For the brakes, the Supra comes with Ventilated Disc Brakes with Four-Piston Fixed Caliper at the front and Ventilated Disc Brakes with 1-Piston Caliper at the rear.

Dimensions

This iconic 2-seater sports car is not as big as other models in its class. It holds a slim body of 4,379 millimeters long, 1,854 millimeters wide, and 1,294 millimeters high, with 2,470 millimeters wheelbase and 115 millimeters ground clearance.

Exterior

This grand tourer comes in a cutting-edge style design from all angles. Its front fascia features a slim and curving style without sacrificing occupant headroom. It holds six-lens LED headlights that are powerful enough without fog lights. The LED daytime running lamps and turn signal lights also complement its stylish front finish. At the rear, the prominent integrated spoiler supports better aerodynamic lift. The GR Supra 3.0 comes with 19-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in stunning Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires exclusively designed for the Toyota Supra. You could also find carbon-fiber elements throughout the car. It includes the carbon fiber front splitter, carbon fiber side rockers that define the lower edge, carbon fiber lower canards, and the carbon fiber rear wing that catches the air up top.

Interior

The Toyota GR Supra’s cockpit is functional and inviting. A standard yet stylish 8.8-inch LCD digital instrument panel features the gauges and vehicle information. The Supra also features a 14-way power-adjustable race car seats with memory and bolstering. The vehicle has push-type dual-zone climate controls, which allow the driver and the passenger to have separate controls on the temperature.

At the center, Supra delivers leading-edge multimedia with its floating-style 8.8-inch LCD touchscreen infotainment system is placed, which supports FM, AM, AUX Input, USB, and Wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. This device can be paired with a high-quality 12-speaker JBL audio system. Plus, it comes with Qi-compatible wireless charging for hassle-free mobile battery loading.

Comfort

Admit it or not, several people choose a certain model because of its comfortable functionalities and features over the driving performance. On this note, the Toyota GR Supra offers the automotive industry standard comfort features. The accessory power outlet, low fuel warning light, on-board computer, electric folding rearview mirror, front power windows, adjustable seats, front cup holders, height-adjustable driver seat, multi-function steering wheel, vanity mirror, cruise control, seat lumbar support, heater, bottle holder, keyless entry, power steering, and of course the air conditioner is present to provide the utmost ride comfortability.

Safety

In terms of safety, Toyota has done a great job in providing safety advancements throughout the years. The GR Supra is equipped with an airbag for the driver, as well as for the passenger. There are front-side airbags and rear-side airbags as well. For safety driving assistance, a vehicle stability control system, hill-start assist control, and traction control are present. Other safety features include crash sensor, front-impact beams, side-impact beams, brake assist, door ajar warning, seat belt warning, rear camera, tire pressure monitor, day and night rearview camera, and engine check warning, EBD, and of course the anti-lock braking system.

Travel with ease, as the Toyota GR Supra is not only equipped with several safety features, but with vehicle security features as well. This sports car comes with an engine immobilizer, anti-theft device, anti-theft alarm, power door locks, and central locking.

Motorsport

The Toyota GR Supra has been used in many forms of motorsports, including drag racing. Because of its powerful powertrain output capabilities, the Supra has been an icon on the road and the racetrack. Moreover, after several motorsports successes, Toyota Motor Corporation launched the GR Supra Racing Concept in March 2018, a car racing event featuring the Supra. A year after, the GR Supra GT4 Concept was introduced.
