Hyundai Malaysia has just previewed the 2023 Hyundai Tucson with a new 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a 1.6T Max variant at the Premium Auto Car Expo 2023. The new variant serves as the new top-of-the-line offering for the 5-seater crossover.

Thanks to our colleagues from Wapcar, we got a quick preview of what the new top-spec model offers and how it can be a game changer if Hyundai Philippines were to bring it in. If you are familiar with what the 5-seater crossover currently provides in the Philippine market, you have a choice of two variants: one equipped with a naturally aspirated gasoline engine and the other has a 2.0-liter turbodiesel motor.

However, for the Malaysian market, it is equipped with either a 2.0-liter gasoline engine or a 1.6-liter turbocharged motor, which could be a game changer if it entered the local market.

More power

While the specifications of the Tucson for the Malaysian market are similar to what we have locally available, it's the 1.6-liter motor that has us intrigued as it produces 180 PS and 265 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed DCT. It has 24 PS and 73 Nm more than its naturally aspirated counterpart, making it an ideal choice for the Philippine market, bringing its power figures closer to the 2.0-liter turbodiesel.

Better safety technology

That's not all, as the 1.6T Max variant has the full suite of Hyundai SmartSense advanced driver assist safety systems, which includes:

  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA)
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist – Junction (FCA-JT)
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA)
  • High Beam Assist (HBA)
  • Blind-spot collision-avoidance Assist (BCA)

Aside from this, it also gets ventilated seats, a fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate controls, a power liftgate, and a wireless charger. These units are also sourced from South Korea, making them all the more appealing if they were to enter the Philippine market.

Not all cars at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show were concepts. Some were actually production models either launched in Japan at JMS, or already sold in the country. Let's take a look at some of the more interesting cars that various JMS exhibitors decided to showcase at this year's show. Echoing the vibes of the Mazda CX-30 with its red and black color mix, the Crown SUV looks more like a jacked
The 2024 Ford Mustang offers a hearty 487 PS from its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine. Launched on September 2022, the all-new muscle car gets subtle styling changes from the previous Mustang, but with a revamped cabin and a bevy of advanced powerplants. Ford Philippines has yet to disclose when this latest generation Mustang will be launched locally. But for those who want more oomph, Ford Performance unveiled its new supercharger kit at the SEMA Show 2023 for the famous pony car, bolte
The latest-generation Ford Territory Titanium is one of the best value-for-money compact crossovers in the Philippines. I reviewed one and genuinely liked it – although its sheer size betrays its “compact” designation. What does remain rather small is its Php 1,335,000 pricetag, which undercuts even compact sedans like the Honda Civic. And now, Ford Philippines is hoping that you say “Yes” to its newest promos. The company announced in a November 2023 press statement that it is holding its Year-
The recent “Undas” week gave us all the chance to reflect not only about those who have left us, but also about our own lives. For those who stayed in Metro Manila, it has been a pleasant mix of clear roads, good weather and occasional rain showers. And for those who drove out of town, it was a chance to spend up to a week away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It really makes you wonder about what the Philippines would be like if economic development were spread all throughout the archip
The R35 Nissan GT-R has been around since I was in first-year high school. Despite having its “Sweet 16” on December 2023, the latest iteration of this iconic Japanese supercar still has what it takes to stick it to the likes of what Europe has to offer. Indeed, the R35’s long-time rival has been the Porsche 911 Turbo, which has been revamped over three generations (997, 991 and the current 992). But the latest scoop from Japanese car magazine BestCarWeb may see a completely new rival for the ne
