SPIED: Ford Territory rival? Sporty Geely Boyue Cool spotted with funky wheels, quad exhaust

SPYSHOT FROM AUTOHOME.

Although Geely Philippines has made serious waves locally with models like the Coolray and the Okavango, the Chinese brand has other interesting cars abroad.

One is the Geely Boyue Cool, which is the smaller version of the Geely Boyue L. The latter is the Chinese-market version of the second-generation Geely Azkarra that is not available in the Philippines.

The Boyue Cool, meanwhile, competes with compact crossovers like the Ford Territory, Chevrolet Trax and Omoda 5.

It carries over the more radical styling of the Boyue L, including the attractive LED headlights that stretch into the lower bumper. The boomerang-style LED taillights also make the crossover stand out from behind.

Under the hood, the Boyue Cool packs a turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine pumping out 184 PS and 290 Nm of torque. In other markets, this can be mated to a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

But spyshots from Chinese automotive website Autohome show what appears to be more aggressive Boyue Cool out in the open.

Big wheels, big pipes

Even with the camouflage wrap and black drapes, the Boyue Cool’s squared A-pillar and upward beltline are a dead giveaway of what the car is.

Things that also stand out are the five-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 series Giti tires. This prototype also gets a bodykit and four huge, center-mounted exhaust pipes at the back in what seems to be a faux diffuser.

The interior spyshot, meanwhile, features the Boyue Cool’s large portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system and gear selector. The rest of the cabin is more comprehensively obscured from prying eyes.

Could this sporty Boyue Cool be the perfect Geely for people who need more room than what a Coolray can provide?
