The wait is over! 2023 Suzuki Jimny 5-door makes its global debut

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door made its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in India.

This comes after months of speculation, spy shots, and rumors about the 5-door version of the famous Suzuki SUV circulating the internet.

Now that it is officially unveiled, we can see that it retains the same design as the regular 3-door version but with a few upgrades to complement the extra length and increased cabin space.

How does it look?

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door retains the same front fascia as its 3-door counterpart.

It still has circular LED headlamps, a sizeable multi-slot grille, and a short bumper. Its side profile remains the same, featuring clean cuts and muscular wheel arches.

One thing to note is that the Suzuki Jimny 5-door still has a rear-mounted spare tire in its 3-door version.

In terms of dimensions, the 5-door Jimny now measures 3,985 mm in length, with its wheelbase stretched to 2,590 mm. This represents a 335 mm lengthening of the body and a 340 mm wheelbase stretch.

As this is an off-road-centric Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), it must be able to tackle the outdoors. It has a 36-degree approach, a 24-degree break over, and a 50-degree departure angle.

Its ground clearance is still the same as the 3-door version at 210 mm.

The same 1.5-liter but with fuel-saving tech

Under the hood, the Suzuki Jimny 5-door is powered by a 1.5-liter 16-valve 4-cylinder K15B engine, which pushes out 105 PS and 134 Nm of torque. Suzuki has given the SUV a new idle start/stop system to aid fuel economy.

It was initially suspected to have a hybrid powerplant available. However, this is not the case for this version of the 5-door SUV. A hybrid model could come later on.

Regarding its off-road tech, the Suzuki Jimny 5-door still retains its manual transfer case, and the Suzuki All Grip Pro AWD, its part-time four-wheel drive system. Its transmission options are from the 3-door model with a four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual gearbox available.

A familiar cabin

The cabin layout for the Suzuki Jimny 5-door remains the same as the 3-door model, as it even has an all-black theme with silver accents.

It still has a 9-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, an electrically operated side mirror, steering-mounted controls, and power windows.

However, based on the images of the vehicle's interior, its trunk space has increased substantially. Suzuki has yet to release any official numbers with regard to the interior of the SUV.

Better safety

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door now comes with six airbags than the standard two airbags found in the 3-door model. Aside from this, it has the following features ABS with EBD, stability control, hill hold assist, and hill descent control.

A rearview camera is also available for the SUV, similar to what is found in the 3-door variant.

Possible arrival in the Philippines?

The Suzuki Jimny 5-door was only previewed at the 2023 Auto Expo in India. Its official sales in the country will not begin until sometime in April 2023.

As Suzuki Philippines sources its models from India, it's only a matter of time before the 5-door model reaches our shores.

We suspect it could enter our local market during the year's second half.

Will the 5-door Jimny be a hit like its 3-door model? Let us know in the comments below.
