Over 2 million cars exported from China, where does Geely rank?

China has exported 2.015 million cars in 2021.

  • SAIC Motor is number one with 697,000 units exported

According to the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers (CAAM), China’s car exports increased 100 percent year-on-year (YoY) in 2021, with 2.015 million units exported.

Out of which, a report from Autohome mentioned that regular passenger vehicles accounted for 1.614 million units, while commercial vehicles accounted for 402,000 units. New Energy Vehicles (NEV), China’s umbrella term for plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV), did 310,000 units last year.

SAIC exported 697,000 units, claims top spot

With 697,000 units exported in 2021, SAIC Motor is China’s largest exporter, with their subsidiary MG accounting for 15 percent of SAIC’s exports. A total of 360,000 MGs were exported. Thailand’s MG ZS EV and MG EP Wagon are two examples of MGs exported from China.

Chery trails in second place with almost 270k units

Sitting in second spot is Chery with 269,154 units exported, marking a 136.3 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase. By 2025, Chery plans to export 500,000 units to achieve an export profit of CNY 5 billion. Some of Chery’s export markets include South Africa, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.

GWM sits in third place with slightly over 140k units exported

Great Wall Motors (GWM) is in third place, with exports accounting for slightly over 140,000 units. GWM has exported to more than 170 countries, with total overseas sales exceeding 900,000 units. Models exported include the Haval H6, Haval Jolion, Ora Good Cat and GWM Pao, the latter is a Toyota Hilux-rivalling pick-up truck.

Geely aims to export 600k cars by 2025

With 115,008 units exported in 2021, Geely currently occupies the fourth spot in this list. Geely has reported that exports grew 58 percent last year. Out of which, their subsidiary Lynk & Co exported 11,602 cars to Europe. By 2025, Geely plans to export 600,000 cars.

Changan tries to catch Geely with 110k-plus units

Changan Automobiles currently occupies the fifth spot in this list with exports exceeding 110,000 units. Models like the CS75 Plus, Eado Plus, and CS35 Plus are exported to various markets.

Elsewhere, Tesla’s new Shanghai plant has also exported roughly 160,000 cars to regions like Europe and Australia. Newer car brands like Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto have exported a total of 100,000 units, with Europe being their primary target.
