Super sharp Accent: Check out official sketches of the 2023 Hyundai Verna

The Verna subcompact sedan (known locally as the Hyundai Accent) features a radical redesign from the previous-generation model, which was dropped from the local lineup after Hyundai Motor Philippines took over the Korean brand's passenger-car operations on June 2022.

Up front is Hyundai’s highly distinct LED running light that runs across the hoodline, much like in the Hyundai Staria van. The main beams are in the lower bumper, with an aggressive trapezoidal grill.

The new Verna’s side profile is also greatly different from the old model, taking on a fastback profile that is accentuated by the high yet pert rear end. A prominent rear fender line gives the car an illusion of greater width.

This all leads to the LED taillights that form a downward L-shape that help the new model stand out.

The huge alloy wheels and minimal wheel gap are also very attractive but will likely not make it into production. But we'd surely love it if it does.

Hyundai has not yet confirmed any information about a high-performance N model that would benefit from such modifications.

Two gasoline engines

What Hyundai India has confirmed is that it is now accepting bookings for the all-new Verna, which will come with two powerplants.

One is a 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine that pumps out 113 PS and 144 Nm torque, similar to what is available in the Hyundai Stargazer multi-purpose vehicle and the Hyundai Creta crossover.

This is mated to either an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) or a 6-speed manual transmission.

The other engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 160 PS and 260 Nm of torque, which is coursed either a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual.

The all-new 2023 Verna will reportedly be launched on March 2023. There is no word yet if it will be offered with a turbodiesel engine.

Do you think Hyundai Motor Philippines should bring in the next-generation Accent?
