How Fuel Efficient is the 2022 Subaru WRX?

Long before its recent launch, the 2022 Subaru WRX was much awaited by car enthusiasts, especially race car drivers, who were looking forward to a better and bolder sport compact car. The WRX draws its inspiration from when Subaru joined and won the World Rallying Championship manufacturer's trophies from 1995 to 1997, along with the driver's championships in 1995, 2001, and 2003.

Indeed, it has several attributes that make it one of the most sought-after high-performance cars. Its specifications boast as it highlights its notable features and functionalities. But will it satisfy the market's demanding expectations beyond its impressive brochure figures?

We often gauge the performance of a new vehicle upon knowing its engine properties. The 2022 Subaru WRX carries a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat boxer engine, which is a significant engine displacement figure. It produces 271 horsepower and 350-Newton meters of torque. It sells itself with the engine property figures based on the given specifications of Subaru.

Beyond the engine figures, what matters more is the actual performance of the WRX, as it will determine if this sport compact car can surpass its rivals' milestones and stand out from the rest. If that's the case, Subaru doesn't disappoint, as it performs way above expectations. Its torque is aggressively telling you that it can give you one of the best performances you'll experience in driving.

Aside from that, the WRX also has a symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. The four-wheel drive technology is what makes every Subaru model today stand out.  Its benefits become apparent when driving over loose or slippery surfaces. That makes driving enjoyable and good; it inspires confidence on the road. On the other hand, this same technology makes it use more fuel than a typical front-wheel drive sedan.  So performance comes with a price. There's just no escaping reality.

However, it also has some characteristics that will make you think twice about getting it, which is inevitable as every car model has disappointing traits. If you are looking for a high-performing sport compact car that can save you on fuel costs, then the WRX might not be the one for you. It runs about eight kilometers per liter inside the city, around 11 kilometers per liter on a highway drive, and about 9.30 kilometers per liter on a combined city and highway drive. The way it gulps fuel will make it a pricey option considering fuel prices today.

Aside from that, the suspension setup is a bit stiff, but not so stiff that it will make you uncomfortable while driving. Overall, Subaru has been truthful when it comes to providing the specifications of the WRX. The output produced is what's expected based on its specifications, powerful. Although, of course, there are consequences. Nothing ever comes free.
