Full Features Reviews: Is Hyundai Tucson a reliable car?

Hyundai Tucson is a 5-door compact crossover sport utility vehicle that has been around since 2004 and is being manufactured by the South Korean automobile brand – Hyundai Motor Company. As the popularity of crossovers crossover the automotive industry, so is the Hyundai Tucson. 18 years since its launch, Hyundai Tucson has always been on the shortlist of car buyers looking for crossover vehicles.

Not only that it is a known car model, but when you say ‘crossover’, the Hyundai Tucson is one of the few car models that first crosses your mind. There are other crossover vehicles from Hyundai aside from Tucson, like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Hyundai Kona. But before those two came, Hyundai Tucson was already drawing its name internationally.

How much does it cost, and in what colors is it available?

There are four 2022 Hyundai Tucson variants to choose from in the Philippines. Its base variant, the Hyundai Tucson 2.0 GL 4x2 Manual Transmission is priced at Php1,368,000 which makes it somewhere between its other sibling Hyundai crossovers. The Hyundai Tucson 2.0 GL 4x2 Automatic Transmission is available at Php1,448,000, while the Hyundai Tucson 2.0 CRDi GL 4x2 Automatic Transmission is at Php1,715,000. And the Hyundai Tucson CRDi GLS 4x2 Automatic Transmission top-of-the-line variant is available at Php1,885,000.

There are eight Hyundai Tucson colors available - the Amazon Gray, Shimmering Silver, Deep Sea, Phantom Black, Calypso Red, Intense Blue, Red Crimson, Quartz White, and Portofino Gray.

Powertrain

The Hyundai Tucson carries either a 2.0-L 4-cylinder gasoline-powered engine or a 2.0-L turbo diesel-powered engine. Its diesel engine has a maximum output of 182 horsepower and 402-newton meters of torque in an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a maximum output of 152 horsepower and 192-newton meters of torque is delivered by the gasoline-powered engine in a 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission, depending on the variant. The standard MacPherson struts and multi-link setup makes up its front and rear suspension.

Exterior

The new Tucson has larger dimensions than the outgoing version measuring 4,500 millimeters long, 1,865 millimeters wide, and 1,650 millimeters high, with a wheelbase of 2,680 millimeters.

In terms of appearance, the new-generation Hyundai Tucson was heavily influenced by the T Vision Concept previewed by Hyundai Motor Company back in 2019. Upfront, the new Tucson features a much brighter adjustable LED headlamps and redesigned fog lamps for a better night-driving view. The air vent grille has also been redesigned to a 3D effect design, which gives a shadow finish on it and adds an aggressive look to the face of Tucson. Over on the side of the headlamps, some 3D textured elements are also included to add character to the lights.

Paying attention to its wheels, a set of traditional 17-inch to 18-inch alloy wheels with black and chrome touches contributes to the side profile of Tucson. Covering the wheels are plastic-made claddings, sharply shaped a bit similar to what’s on the Jeep. The wing mirrors have turn indicators with cameras on each side and touched with a brushed chrome strip. On top of the Tucson are built-in dark-colored roof rails and a shark fin antenna. Heading on the back can be found the redesigned taillights complementing the headlamps up front and the rear spoiler that looks similar to its previous version.

Interior

The interior finish of Tucson is far more subdued than its exterior. The cabin is minimalist but Hyundai still made it look and feel classy on top of being generously spacious. Soft-touch materials are over the top of the dashboard and around the doors. There’s a seamless blending drawn from the dashboard and the doors surrounding the occupants. The instrument panel is repositioned to a lower angle, and a push-to-start button can be found beside it.

Tucson’s air conditioner comes in three-zone climate control with multi-air mode technology that combines direct and direct air vents to enhance comfort by spreading an equal amount of air throughout the entire cabin. Its infotainment system features either a 7-inch floating-type display or a 3.8-inch floating-type display that supports USB, AUX, Radio, and Bluetooth connectivity through a 6-speaker output system.

The Hyundai Tucson can accommodate up to five seating adults, and the rear passengers have approximately 26 millimeters of additional legroom. The seats come in a fabric covering and are 8-way power-adjustable with 2-way lumbar support for the driver, while the second-row seat is split-fold in 60/40 with a center armrest and cup holders.

At the back, Hyundai Tucson has got 539 liters of cargo space for the standard trims. To increase the space, the second-row seats can be folded flat to have 1,860 liters of cargo space. It is relatively more massive than its competitors of the same vehicle class in the automotive market.

Safety and Security

In terms of its safety and security aspects, Hyundai Tucson does not come with a lot like its competitors. But surely Hyundai made sure that it is reliably safe and secured on the road. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has an anti-lock braking system, parking sensors, driver and passenger airbags, rear seatbelts, child safety locks, engine check warning, rear camera, day and night rearview camera, front impact beams, side-impact beams, door ajar warning, seat belt warning, crash sensor, vehicle stability control system, power door locks, central locking, and engine immobilizer ready to accompany you on the road without having many worries.
