Now with a selfie cam and TikTok capabilities - the 2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class debuts

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has officially made its global debut as the sixth-generation executive saloon with new styling, rear steer, and even a selfie camera.

The new sedan also carries a futuristic cabin and a hybrid drivetrain lineup.

The new E-Class has also increased in size as it is longer than its predecessor. For its wheelbase, the sedan is 22 mm longer. While it may not seem different, it translates to a knee and legroom increase of about 10 mm and an extra 25 mm of elbow room inside the vehicle.

These are small changes but with significant implications regarding space inside the vehicle.

S-Class styling but with a twist

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has taken a few design cues from its bigger brother, the S-Class. The sedan can now be had with flush door handles and chrome trim on the trunk lid, giving it a sleeker look.

However, it's not just a copycat for corporate’s sake; the E-Class has its signature look as it carries a three-dimensionally designed grille with different renditions depending on the variant.

Aside from this, the sedan also gets high-performance LED headlights paired with LED daytime running lights positioned at the top of the housing.

Interior styling cues from the EQE

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class takes more design cues from other vehicles in the German brand’s stable, as its dashboard is similar to that of the all-electric Mercedes Benz EQE. This gives the sedan a wrap-around style dashboard with a free-standing digital instrument cluster and a massive MBUX infotainment system that extends to the passenger side.

As standard, the executive sedan gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities with a unique addition of supporting TikTok to cater to a younger audience.

A selfie cam and social media integration

The Tiktok support is not just meant to be viewed as the new E-Class can have up to five cameras inside the vehicle. However, only one is standard: a mono camera to monitor the driver.

Depending on the trim level you get, a stereo camera may also be present inside the vehicle that adds another driver monitor to the instrument display, which aids with the vehicle’s advanced driver assist systems. A gesture camera is also present in the cabin, which is positioned in the overhead control panel to help with the gesture control features found in the vehicle.

Aside from this, two RGB cameras are also present, one acting as a dash cam and the other as a selfie cam. Mercedes says it can be used for Zoom meetings or content creation while the vehicle is parked.

Hybrid power

Under the hood, the 2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class offers various electrified turbocharged hybrid drivetrains with its EQ Boost mild-hybrid system.

The E200 trim gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine that pushes out 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque.

Next is the E220D, which gets a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that produces 197PS and 440 Nm of torque. The trim level also accesses the brand’s 4Matic 4WD system for extra grip.

The 2024 E-Class also has two plug-in hybrid versions for those looking for new energy propulsion. However, these are only being offered for the European market. The E300e has a total system output of 312PS with 550 Nm of torque and can travel 115km on its battery alone.

Next is the E400e 4Matic, which has a combined system output of 380 PS and 650 Nm of torque. Like the E300e, it too can travel on battery power alone but with a shorter range of about 109 km.

It will take some time before the new E-Class enters the Philippine market, as Europe and North America are prioritized first. Moreover, recent management changes in CATS Motors will likewise affect the influx and timing of new model arrivals in the country.
