The 2022 Ford Explorer is the sixth generation since the model was first launched in 1991. This American-made mid-size crossover sport utility vehicle has been continuously developing into a modernly functional vehicle. Changes have been made to its engine, transmission, performance, body size, functionalities, and overall exterior and interior styling.

It is reported in 2020 as the best-selling SUV in America, the Ford Explorer is often used in family cars and police cars. In the Philippines, the Explorer is often used as an executive SUV vehicle as it has a commanding presence on the road. Plus, it comes with a price that only an executive can afford.

How much does it cost in the Philippines?

Out of eight Ford Explorer variants, the Ford Explorer 2.3 EcoBoost Limited 4x4 Automatic Transmission is the only variant available in the Philippines, and it costs Php2,998,000.

On the other hand, there are eight colors available in the country – the Agate Black Metallic, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Atlas Blue Metallic, Iconic Silver Metallic, Rapid Red Metallic, Oxford White, Stone Gray, and the Star White Metallic.

Powertrain

The Ford Explorer EcoBoost engine is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline in a 10-speed automatic transmission which can produce 300 horsepower and 420-newton meters of torque at 3,500 rpm. It also comes with an auto start stop feature which allows you to eke out fuel efficiency. All the power can be sent to its four wheels in a rear wheel drivetrain, and has 3,498 cc engine displacement.

Exterior

The 2022 Ford Explorer still has the classic Explorer vibe on its exterior. The LED headlamps are redesigned to a blacked out inside, and the air vent grille has now changed from before. Upfront also are four sensors, LED DRLs, and fog lamps down below.

Heading over to the side, the 20-inch polished aluminum rims on 255/55 R20 Michelin self-sealing tires complements and looks good. There are also repeaters on both side mirrors and a nice black garnish down below. Up on top, the roof rails add to the aesthetic beauty.

The rear looks the typical Ford Explorer except the redesigned taillights that now look chunkier than before. The new taillights are all LED, and are brighter than the usual. Another change from the previous version is that there are chrome garnishes, and it now comes with twin exhausts and a power liftgate.

Interior

The Ford Explorer can seat up to seven adults on a normal seating setup. Upfront, the driver’s seat, and the passenger’s seat are power-adjustable. The seats are made flexible even for second-row passengers. Each second-row passenger, except for the middle passenger, can move their chairs manually, according to their preference, as the seats are individually adjustable and not the usual bench-type. All seats come in black leather covers with bolstering, and a center armrest with two cup holders is also found in the second row. The bolstering is enough and is not a reason for you to get out of the car difficultly. The legroom is spacious, even for tall people upfront and the back. The headroom is also massive, leaving with around four inches of allowance.

The steering wheel is power-adjustable with a push of a button, so finding the perfect driving position could be easy. The instrument cluster is two analog gauges displayed on a screen. Over at the center of the dashboard, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display is found, which supports voice recognition communication, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and matched with a 12-speaker sound system. Aside from that, the Explorer also comes with a wireless charging pad, USB charging ports, and 230 volts power outlets. Lastly, adding more sophistication to the interior design of the cabin is the wood accent across the dashboard, and on top is a huge panoramic sunroof light.

The Ford Explorer gives the most generous cargo space in its category, with 18.2 cubic feet of boot space. The rear space could go larger by 47.9 cubic feet if third-row seats are to be folded flat.

Ford Explorer comes with lots of safety and security features, and some of them are only found in Ford-made cars.
