The 2022 Nissan Leaf: A Decent EV for its Price 01

On average, an internal combustion engine emits 5.4 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, relatively higher than an electric vehicle - which only emits two metric tons per annum. That is why automotive manufacturers are developing ways how to ease this dilemma. And with the uncontrollable oil price hikes, people are exploring alternatives. With the evolution of technology over the years, electric-powered vehicles have become competent and viable mobility solutions.

The second-generation Nissan Leaf

If not the first, Nissan was one of the first few automobile manufacturers to develop electric vehicles. Their first electric-powered vehicle Tama was introduced back in 1947. After several years, the fruit of their endeavor pays off as their fully electric-powered vehicle, Nissan Leaf, gets the crowd's attention. Not only that, but automotive critics consider it the best commercially available innovative car of our time. As the Japanese automaker has introduced its second-generation this 2022, it promises double the power of its previous generation.

The 2022 Nissan Leaf carries a 40kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery, which according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), could run up to a 311-kilometer range on a single full charge. It provides a maximum output of 150 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, above the maximum output of some fuel-powered cars in the market. It can go up to 0-100 kilometers per hour/7.9 seconds while reaching a top speed of 140 kilometers per hour. Unlike other internal combustion engine units, the Nissan Leaf will not leave you hanging as its acceleration is impressively responsive. The torque kicks in as you prompt it, especially if you are not on Eco mode.

On the other hand, if you’re on Eco mode, the throttle is not as responsive. Nonetheless, the power is still there even if you aim to save more battery energy. There is also what Nissan Leaf calls E-pedal, which automatically brakes and accelerates upon your right foot's command, just like how you drive a golf cart, which eases the driver. Overall, the 2022 Nissan Leaf is a competent car that could keep up with traditional combustion engines.
