SUV Driving Battle - Nissan Terra vs Isuzu MU-X

Angelica · Jul 15, 2022 08:00 AM

Never have I encountered someone who hasn't wished even once in his life to ride inside one of the latest and most sought-after SUVs of our time with his family, as SUV models nowadays are becoming a lot competitive and impressive. Several highly competitive contenders are in the segment already, but some of them look up to Nissan's Terra. What's so special about the Terra? Can it top the performance of one of its closest rivals in the category, Isuzu mu-X?

Engine and Transmission

Based on the engine and transmission specifications, the Nissan Terra and the mu-X come with different figures. Nissan Terra is powered by a 2.5-liter diesel engine with 2,488 cc engine displacement mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, while the Isuzu mu-X comes with a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 2,999 cc engine displacement mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. While they have different engine sizes and displacements, both the Terra and the mu-X shares the same engine maximum output at 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque in a four-wheel-drive configuration.

To determine whether the 2022 Nissan Terra is better than its closest rival Isuzu mu-X, Nissan made sure to impress beyond the figures. The Terra comes with great comfort, as most of its reviewers would describe it, including me. I've tried it a couple of times, and wow, it is indeed the most comfortable SUV I have driven. The steering is light and responsive as opposed to the slightly heavy steering of the Isuzu mu-X. But on a good note, the mu-X's riding comfort has improved from its outgoing version.

On the other hand, Isuzu mu-X's gear shifting could be improved as you could encounter some slight delay when you change gears. That is not the scenario with the Nissan Terra, as it comes with a responsive gear shifter, but there is a delay when it comes to its brakes. Not to the point that you won't feel safe, but it can improve. When it comes to the NVH, the Terra comes more well-insulated than the mu-X, which makes it present itself on a premium level.

Other factors make driving the Terra more enjoyable and comfortable as a whole, including its good driving visibility, accommodating driver's seating position, and overall riding comfort package.
