If you’re a regular at the annual Manila International Auto Show, you will have heard of Russ Swift.
He has become the darling of motor shows worldwide because of his incredible precision driving showcases. Even with ordinary cars, he can execute flawless reverse J-turns, drive up on two wheels, and, his signature stunt, parallel park in the tightest spaces.
This weekend, you can witness the legendary autotester in action at the second Subaru Advanced Technology Drive on Oct. 7-9, 2022 at the Gatwick Gateway in Clark, Pampanga.
3-time Guinness World Record holder
Swift made his name by winning championships in autotesting, a form of motorsport popular in the UK where drivers must execute tight maneuvers in a course marked with cones.
In 1981, he founded the Russ Swift Precision Driving Team, which took autotesting and car stunts to a wider audience. Swift was also the wheelman in the popular T.V. commercial for the Austin Montego in the late-1980s.
In addition, he is a three-time Guinness World Record holder, taking titles for parallel parking in the tightest space, J-turn in the tightest space and the fastest donuts.
Over the last four decades, Swift has performed over 8,000 displays in over 50 countries. He has also been a long-standing partner of Subaru for many of his shows in Asia, including the Philippines.
Try out the latest Subaru safety systems
For those who aren’t professional precision drivers, Subaru Asia said visitors can test the latest Subaru models at the event.
The company said in a statement that the Subaru Advanced Technology Drive allows drivers to “discover Subaru’s cutting-edge autonomous technologies that will transform ordinary driving to autonomous driving enjoyment.”
These include the carmaker’s EyeSight Advanced Driver Assist Technology, along with its Autonomous Stop and Go functions like pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management and adaptive cruise control.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Swift's shows will be every 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
