From the initial announcement of Chinese brand Omoda that it is entering the Philippine market in the fourth quarter of 2023 along with sister premium brand Jaecoo, it now says that it is moving its official start of retail sales in the Philippine market to early 2024.
The brand launch remains on target by the last quarter of 2023.
At the sidelines of an official trip by the Philippine motoring press to China upon the invitation of Omoda and Jaecoo, Omoda Philippines Country Director Marco Chen says that the brands prefer to enter the market as a proper subsidiary instead of through a Filipino distributor, citing the potential for higher sales performance.
Both Omoda and Jaecoo are considered premium brands in the portfolio of Chery Holdings. Chen said they are working on finalizing more details to position both brands in the Philippine market properly.
Chen also mentioned that they are still working on establishing the brands' parts facility to ensure ample supply and avoid after-sales issues plaguing other Chinese car brands in the Philippines.
Chen said that both brands are aware of the after-sales concerns of Filipino car buyers and would address these issues as they set up their operations in the country.
Omoda Philippines is currently finalizing its search for a 5,000 sqm warehouse facility to house its parts stock.
Chen likewise mentioned that Omoda will target 15 dealerships once its operations roll out next year.
According to Chen, Omoda is an export-driven brand now in 20 countries. "It is the best-selling export brand under the Chery Holdings group, considering it only started in 2022," shares Chen.
Chen adds, “Omoda and Jaecoo are growing faster than expected." He says that export sales of Omoda are now past 15,000 units a month. Omoda targets to be in 30 markets by 2024.
