Mitsubishi gives you a first official look at the 2024 Mitsubishi Strada in its concept form at the Bangkok motor show with the XRT Concept car.
The concept car revealed at the show is still heavily dressed in camouflage. However, it hints at what to expect from the next-generation pickup truck.
“The all-new Triton (Strada in the Philippine market) is going through final touch-ups in preparation for its release, as we have performed rigorous endurance tests around the world while also incorporating the know-how gained from rally activities,” said Takao Kato, Mitsubishi Motors president, and CEO.
While this is just a concept vehicle, what we can tell is that the next-generation Strada will carry the brand’s newest rendition of its dynamic shield design language.
Based on the released images, we see that Mitsubishi has retained its dual-layer headlight design, with the daytime running lights positioned at the top of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the actual headlights of the pickup truck, albeit hidden, are still located in the mid-bumper section of the car.
At the back, the XRT concept car reveals a familiar rear with tail lights that match images of the pickup truck prototype circulating the internet. We can also see that the vehicle has a sports bar at the back and a pair of spare tires. However, we suspect that these accessories are just for show.
Aside from the Bangkok motor show, the XRT concept will also be showcased at the Asia Cross Country Rally in Thailand and Laos this August 2023.
PHEV and next-gen diesel technology
As this is just a concept car, everything is still being determined about its product specifications. However, we can tell you that Mitsubishi will give the pickup truck a next-generation diesel engine.
The Japanese automaker has also stated that a PHEV version of the 2024 Mitsubishi Strada is in the works and is set to go up against the PHEV version of the Ford Ranger (Specs | News), which has been confirmed to launch by 2024.
From the design of the Mitsubishi XRT concept, things look interesting for the automaker as it has joined with Nissan to help develop the next-generation Nissan Navara (Specs | News).
The 2024 Mitsubishi Strada is reported to be the basis for the next-generation Navara, which will like take on the same platform but with a different body.
It is a waiting game to see when Mitsubishi will reveal the full production version of the 2024 Mitsubishi Strada, but this XRT concept is a good start.
