Toyota Hiace Fuel Consumption: Is 8.1-litres/100km economical to run? 01

Once upon a time, vehicles like the Toyota Hiace which is the most economically-sound decision to make when deciding to buy a can either for personal or for commercial purposes. Now, is it still the same or has the rising price of diesel enough to make the Hiace on the bad side of the fence?

To begin with, vehicles like the Hiace has many variants, and most if not all of them are now diesel. It is an economically-sound decision as diesel before is always cheaper than petrol. Besides, a huge vehicle like the Hiace needs all the power and torque that can come from a diesel engine, because having a petrol engine for a van might not actually work out (you'd think of this especially if you haven't found about the Alphard; go check that behemoth out). Anyway, we are now in the situation where diesel's price per liter is slightly higher than the price of petrol. So, do diesel-powered vehicles, especially like the Hiace, still prove to be a great choice in terms of fuel efficiency?

The answer is, it depends.

It depends on your use for the Hiace, whether or not you are using it commercially or personally. Or, whether or not you are using the Hiace to its maximum potential, like loading it with people or stuff, to bring from point A to B. Because if you're using your van as a daily but you're loading less than 8 people at least then, maybe there are other options out there. The Fuel efficiency of the Hiace is at 6 kilometers per liter in the city, 8 kilometers per liter on the better part of city driving, and about 12 to 14 kilometers per liter on the highway. Considering the size and the practicality, the figures look like an easy win. But as I have said, if you are using the Hiace less than that of its designed potential, for whatever purpose, then there are other vehicles with better fuel economy out there. Just saying. It's always all on you.
