Hyundai targeting 1 million electrified-vehicle sales worldwide by 2025 01

Hyundai Motor Company is going all-out with electrifying its vehicle line-up.

The company said in an October 2022 press statement that it plans to have 23 eco-friendly models by 2025, along with reaching one million sales and a 10-percent global market share by the same year.

The key component in the Korean carmaker's plan is its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-MGP), which is the brand's first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform.

It enables 800 volts of ultra-fast charging and a maximum driving range of up to 481 kilometers.

In addition, the company said the battery pack's position under the floor within the wheelbase ensures ideal weight distribution between the front and rear and a lower center of gravity for improved handling.

The E-MGP will be used in Hyundai's upcoming line-up of IONIQ EVs. These include the IONIQ 5, which was launched globally in 2021 and with sales starting in the Philippines on January 2023, and its Kia EV6 sibling

Meanwhile, the IONIQ 6 midsize sedan will debut in 2023 and the IONIQ 7 large sport-utility vehicle will be unveiled in 2024. Hyundai said the IONIQ line-up includes the world's first patented multi-charging system and driver assistance features like autonomous driving.

Carbon-neutral by 2045

Hyundai Philippines deputy general manager for marketing Mark Parulan told AutoFun Philippines that the big push for EVs is rooted in the brand's focus on sustainability.

"We're all about making sure that the next generation will have a very sustainable world," he said. "So by promoting EVs, it will contribute to lower emissions."

Hyundai Motors also launched on April 2022 its "Goal of the Century" campaign, which aims to help the Korean carmaker achieve carbon neutrality in all stages of its production and operation by 2045.

Parulan added that EVs today "have come a very long way" from older models, especially with the advent of larger battery packs and fast-charging technology.

The IONIQ 5, which was showcased on October 2022 at the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicile Summit, has a claimed maximum range of 481 kilometers. Hyundai said it can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes using a 350 kW/h fast charger.

It is the latest electrified Hyundai to enter the Philippine market, following the Kona EV and the Ioniq hybrid EV.

Do you think the global car market is ready to go all-electric?
