Hyundai Motor Group promotes South Korea to host the World Expo for 2030 at WEF 01

The Hyundai Motor Group has promoted the South Korean city of Busan’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo at the World Economic Forum (WEF) that happened last Jan. 16 to 20.

During the WEF, Hyundai had a fleet of 58 vehicles wrapped with Busan’s World Expo 2030 logo to promote the city to the forum-attending world political and business leaders, Swiss citizens, and other visitors.

The fleet consisted of 45 eco-friendly models, including 18 Genesis Electrified G80, eight GV60, four Electrified GV70, and 15 Hyundai Santa Fe plug-in hybrid vehicles. In addition, dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations were set up near event venues and IONIQ 5 units to provide emergency charging using the model’s Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature.

These EVs are part of Busan’s World Expo vision for a sustainable future with the theme ‘Transforming our world, navigating towards a better future.’

The fleet of vehicles was the official transportation for the forum’s Korean delegates. These vehicles will also function as billboards to promote Busan as the host city for the World Expo 2030.

For the safety of the delegates, a dedicated technical team was on standby along with all-wheel-drive and winter tires at the ready.

More than just electric vehicles

Aside from this, Hyundai also displayed the Genesis X concept car in a transparent container at the entrance of the event hall that hosted “Korea night’ during the forum. The EV-based concept car presents Genesis’s new perspective on sustainable luxury design.

Promoting Busan for the long haul

Before WEF, Hyundai also promoted Busan’s bid at the Bureau International des Expositions
(BIE) General Assembly in Paris in June and November last year, with fleet vehicles wrapped with the Busan World Expo logo.

Last November, it also supported Busan with promotional banners and brochures during the official vehicle delivery ceremony at the G20 Bali Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Hyundai will promote Busan through its global network with various market activities, such as new product launches. It will also make content to highlight the city’s ability to host the World Expo and its future vision and share it through social channels, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

With the exposure of Hyundai's and Genesis' electric vehicles to world leaders, do you think more countries will adopt electrification as part of their environmental initiatives?
