In the Philippines, sedans have always been the top-selling vehicle type as it has the primary characteristics Filipinos are looking for in an entry-level car. Even though bigger vehicles other than sedans are getting rapid popularity in the past years, a sedan was still hailed as the best-selling car of 2021 in the country. With that, Chinese automobile manufacturer Geely has decided to enter the market with the compact car 2022 Geely Emgrand.

What are the variants of the 2022 Geely Emgrand?

Initially, there were two variants of the 2022 Emgrand in the Philippines, the Geely Emgrand Comfort, and the Geely Emgrand Premium. Not long after, Geely introduced the Emgrand S 1.5 Manual Transmission variant and its price is available upon request.

The Geely Emgrand Comfort 1.5 Automatic Transmission variant is priced at Php798,000 while the top-of-the-line variant Geely Emgrand Premium 1.5 Automatic Transmission is at Php,000.

Powertrain System

Under the hood of the 2022 Emgrand, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated gasoline-powered engine is present in both variants. It produces a maximum of 102 horsepower and 142-Newton meters of torque output in a manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. It sits on top of the latest Geely BMA Platform and is set up with MacPherson strut and torsion beam suspension. The brakes at the front are ventilated discs and drum or solid discs at the back.

Exterior

Without knowing its price, you might think that the Geely Emgrand is a premium car model from a European brand because of its elegant-looking exterior. The front clip features a massive air vent grille with classy vertical chrome slats topped with the Geely badge which is also in chrome finish. On each side of the Emgrand are the LED headlights with LED daytime running lights located that add to the sophisticated face. There are no fog lamps, instead, there are black and chrome garnishes at the bottom on each side.

Heading over to the side of the Emgrand, it is noticeably longer than some of its closest rivals in the market. It features a sleek side profile with a strong character line and a chrome accent that runs across the bottom of the windows for the Premium variant. Power-folding side mirrors are also available in the Premium variant. The 17-inch alloy wheels of the Emgrand are very stylish and look like an asterisk with sharp arrows pointed towards the center.

On the other hand, at the back, the Emgrand Premium variant has a European design style that features a very artistic light bar and tail lamps which gives a rhythmic effect, while the Emgrand Comfort variant has the same tail lamps. Below the lightbar that runs across the tailgate is a spelled out Geely paired to the thin chrome line on the rear bumper. The exhaust pipe is hidden under the car, which is very clean-looking.

The cargo trunk automatically opens up when it senses that the car key is nearby. It is a helpful feature, especially whenever you are carrying several things. The cargo trunk holds a 500-liter of space, but if have to load long items, the second-row seats can fold down for you to utilize an additional amount of space, and under the trunk, the floor is a spare tire repository.

Interior

When you get in the Emgrand, it will greet you with a sophisticated European-looking interior that features a sleek and clean-looking dashboard that comes in a soft leather material with chrome accents. There are only a few physical buttons found around the cabin as most of the controls can be done on its eight-inch infotainment touchscreen monitor, including opening and closing the sunroof, which is available in the Geely Emgrand Premium variant.

Unlike other car models, the push-to-start button of the 2022 Emgrand is found along with other buttons at the center of the dashboard instead of having a separate location near the steering wheel. Speaking of the chunky steering wheel, its thickness together with its soft leather covering, gives it a good grip for the driver. It also comes with buttons on each side to easily control the infotainment system and cruise control functionalities. Behind the steering wheel is a massive 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that gives a good vision of the vehicle information. The eight-inch touchscreen infotainment display found at the center of the dashboard is impressively responsive. However, it doesn’t support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity yet, but you can mirror your smartphone screen to the infotainment display.

The seats are stunningly built well-bolstered, and premium. Although there are noticeable differences between the Emgrand Comfort and the Emgrand Premium seats, both provide the comfort you seldom encounter in a sedan of its price. The seats of the Emgrand Premium variant are a combination of white and blue, while the Emgrand comfort comes in black. A power-adjustable seat is provided for the driver while the passenger gets a manually-adjustable seat.

Safety and Security

The 2022 Geely Emgrand comes with the standard six airbags, seatbelts for all the occupants with seat belt warning, a rear camera, and child safety locks. It also comes with crash sensors, traction control system, engine check warning, parking sensors, door ajar warning, vehicle stability control system, front impact beams, engine immobilizer, side impact beams, power door locks, central locking, ABS with EBD, tire pressure monitor, anti-theft device, anti-theft alarm, rear camera, and adaptive cruise control features to ensure the safety of all passengers.
